We are looking for a Full-Time Academic and Admissions Advisor to join the UTHealth School of Public Health in San Antonio, TX, 78229. In this position, you will provide advising, admissions, and retention services to prospective and existing students. These will be provided during individual and group counseling, various meetings for orientation, and a multitude of workshops to help develop the required skills and knowledge.

You will also provide information and guidance on specific degree plans, along with their requirements, academic policy, as well as navigation of the student administrative processes. You'll also have the opportunity to travel to and attend colleges and university educational and job fairs.

Position Summary:

Provides advising, admissions and retention services to prospective and existing students through individual and group counseling and workshops. Provides information and guidance on specific degree plans and requirements, academic policy and navigation of the student administrative processes.

Position Key Accountabilities:

  • Implements, coordinates, and monitors activities to recruit and matriculate students, including recruitment efforts specifically designed to encourage applications from students from diverse backgrounds.
  • Develops, coordinates, and delivers information sessions for existing and prospective students.
  • Serves as main point of contact for prospective students and maintains contact; assists with admission and registration processes.
  • Assists with the development, editing, and distribution of recruitment materials.
  • Assists with student activities including new student orientation, commencement, open houses, and receptions.
  • Meets with students in assigned academic programs and provides guidance and counseling with course planning.
  • Assists students in the development of individual academic plans to meet educational and professional goals.
  • Monitors students’ academic progress; updates student records.
  • Identifies gaps and barriers to successful completion of enrolled program and explores customization options as necessary; coordinates with faculty academic advisors as necessary.
  • Provides and/or identifies appropriate resource persons to provide support services for students as needs emerge.
  • Provides counsel to students on university policies and procedures.
  • Coordinates the advising process with faculty academic advisors, departments, and regional campuses.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Certification/Skills:

  • Strong interpersonal, written and verbal skills and the ability to work with diverse populations.
  • Ability to make general decisions requiring a comprehensive knowledge of a wide range of regulations, policies, procedures and practices. Generally requires use of initiative and independent judgment.
