Summary

The Teacher fulfills the mission of the Catholic school by guiding, inspiring, and educating students in a loving, Christ-centered environment. The Teacher is to be immediately responsible to the principal for the carrying out of policies of the school and the Archdiocese of San Antonio as they relate to the function of the school, the classroom, and the immediate contact with students and parents.

Position

Responsibilities
  • Supports and upholds the philosophy of Catholic education and the mission of the school
  • Acts as a witness to Gospel values by modeling the teachings of the Catholic Church
  • Supports and adheres to the policies and procedures of the school and Archdiocese of San Antonio, including the Religious Standards for Catholic School Employees
  • Maintains confidentiality regarding school matters
  • Adheres to safety training and protocols on a daily basis and takes precautionary measures to ensure the safety and well-being of self, others
  • Protects the confidentiality of information or material obtained in the service with the organization, including client names and information, services rendered, donors names and gifts, investigations or results, and financial information
  • Adheres to the Code of Conduct and the Faith and Moral Policy
  • Takes a solution-oriented approach in interactions and promotes collaboration and commitment to the Mission and Vision
  • Performs other duties as assigned
Instructional Strategies
  • Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the school curriculum and show written evidence of preparation
  • Provide accommodations for differences in student learning styles
  • Present subject matter according to guidelines established by TEA, Department of Catholic Schools, and administrative regulations
  • Plan and use instructional strategies and materials aligned to students’ learning needs
  • Assess student learning styles and use results to plan instruction
  • Collaborate with staff to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods according to DCS requirements
  • Plan and supervise assignments of teacher aides and volunteers
  • Use technology to strengthen the teaching/learning process
Student Growth and Development
  • Help students analyze and improve study methods and habits
  • Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal testing
  • Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned; sponsor approved outside activities
  • Be a positive role model for students and support the mission of Catholic education
Classroom Management and Organization
  • Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for students’ development
  • Manage student behavior in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct
  • Take precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities
  • Assist in selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials as required
Communication
  • Establish and maintain open communication by conferences with parents, students, principals, and teachers
  • Maintain professional relationships with colleagues, students, parents, and community members
  • Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly
Professional Growth and Development
  • Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills
  • Keep informed of and comply with Department of Catholic school regulations and policies for classroom teachers
  • Compile, maintain, and file required reports, records, and documents
  • Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required
Requirements

Minimum Qualifications Education
  • A Bachelor’s degree
  • Certified Teacher is preferred
License and Credentials
  • 12 credit hours in education courses or a valid, appropriate state certificate, as outlined by the Texas Catholic Conference Education Department standards
  • Technology proficiency in word processing, spreadsheets, databases, internet use for educational purposes, and multimedia presentations
  • Demonstrated competency in the subject area(s) assigned
  • Must pass archdiocesan Safe Environment Requirements and background screening
