Position: Long -Term Substitute (Lower School)

The Long-Term Substitute Teacher provides classroom instruction and continuity of learning during a faculty member’s extended absence. This educator upholds the School’s mission, values, and commitment to academic excellence while fostering a safe, supportive, and engaging environment for students. The Long-Term Substitute is expected to deliver high-quality instruction, maintain classroom management, and collaborate with faculty, staff, and administrators to support the overall educational program.

Key Responsibilities
  • Instructional Delivery:
    Implements lesson plans, maintains academic time, motivates students to learn and participate, and delivers engaging, age-appropriate instruction that reflects the school’s academic standards and college preparatory focus. Incorporates a variety of instructional strategies, including technology, collaborative work, and differentiated learning methods.
  • Classroom Management:
    Maintains a structured, respectful, and inclusive learning environment aligned with the school’s behavioral expectations. Supervises students inside and outside of the classroom as required. Ensures safety, discipline, and order in all school-related settings.
  • Assessment and Reporting:
    Monitors student progress, provides feedback, and assesses work as required. Communicates effectively with division heads, parents, and students regarding academic progress and classroom expectations. Submits grades, reports, and documentation in a timely manner.
  • Collaboration and School Engagement:
    Collaborates with colleagues, counselors, and administrators to support student success. Attends required meetings, professional development, and school functions.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree required; degree in Education or subject-related field preferred.
  • Prior teaching experience, preferably in an independent school or college preparatory environment.
  • Strong classroom management and instructional skills.
  • Ability to implement existing lesson plans with fidelity while adapting instruction to student needs.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with students, families, and colleagues.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging.
Physical Requirements /Working Environment
  • Works in a highly stressful environment dealing with a wide variety of challenges, deadlines, and a varied and diverse array of contacts.
  • May work at a desk and computer for extended periods of time.
  • Occasional evening or weekend responsibilities (e.g., parent events, school functions).
  • Work primarily in a traditional climate-controlled office environment.
  • Work intermittently in outside weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold.
