Digital Materials and Knowledge Management Librarian Part‑Time

Position Summary: The Digital Materials and Knowledge Management Librarian Part‑Time will serve as the lead in establishing guidelines, best practices, and protocols for UIW Libraries Digital Scholarship services through the management of the UIW Libraries Athenaeum (institutional repository) and developing a digital assets strategy that will be a sustainable model to support knowledge dissemination and digital scholarship. The role will serve as preservation archivist for these resources, advocate for knowledge dissemination through effective and responsive practices, and collaborate on related grant opportunities.

The position reports to the Director of Technical Services.

Job Duties Records Management
  • Assesses the institution’s digital scholarship needs and develops guidelines and best practices in this service area.
  • Promotes the use of the Athenaeum and other tools and services to facilitate research dissemination, digital access, and preservation.
  • Develops policies and processes for the selection, acquisition, and accession of UIW Libraries local digital materials that promote sustainable preservation and discovery.
  • Manages the digitization of born analog materials and born‑digital local materials. Initial focus will be on print document and photo format conversion and born‑digital assets.
  • Develops collections and access to curated open‑access materials / other openly free materials to be deposited in the Athenaeum.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Administration
  • Develops and provides trainings on the importance and services of the digital scholarship program that will include the use of digital tools and platforms.
  • Maintains and reports statistics and data required by the Director of Technical Services and the Dean of Libraries.
Qualifications – Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Demonstrated knowledge of digital resource management and asset description best practices.
  • Strong skills in digitization projects and management.
  • Proficiency with multiple metadata schemas such as MARC, Dublin Core, etc.
  • Knowledge of controlled vocabularies such as LCSH, MeSH, LCGFT.
  • Proficiency with web development and use/creation of informational platforms.
  • Knowledge of accessibility and copyright standards for digital resources and platforms.
  • Expertise in related technologies, software, standards, and systems.
  • Knowledge of current trends in the field.
  • Strong organizational and planning skills.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures.
  • Employee shall adhere to all applicable rules and regulations of the University, the Conference, and the NCAA.
Required Education

ALA‑accredited MLS or equivalent degree.

Required Work Experience
  • One (1) year of professional experience in digitization practices in museums or libraries.
  • One (1) year of professional experience in classification of digital assets in museums or libraries.
  • One (1) year of professional experience in providing teaching and scholarship support in museums or libraries.
  • One (1) year of experience with integrated library systems, institutional repository systems, OCLC, Marc Edit/Open Refine, and other metadata technologies such as RDA, MARC
    21, etc.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Professional experience with Elsevier’s ALMA Library Services Platforms.
  • Professional experience utilizing and managing collections in ExLibris’ Digital Commons Repository.

Work Hours

20 hours per week within standard business hours of Monday through Friday 8 am to 5 pm with extended hours as needed to meet departmental goals. Some weekend work may be required.
