Position SummaryAt Power Plant, a 2x1 Combined Cycle plant, the O&M Technician – Maintenance – Mechanical maintains mechanical equipment, performs regular preventive maintenance, troubleshoots, operates, tests, supervises and performs outage work, supervises and performs plant improvement work, and maintains documentation on all power plant mechanical equipment and systems. In so doing, the O&M Technician – Maintenance - Mechanical keeps power plant mechanical equipment in optimum operating condition;
provides safety and environmental stewardship in his/her area of expertise; ensures compliance with all applicable Federal and State regulations and plant procedures; and develops and participates in continuous improvement of plant operating and maintenance procedures to ensure optimal, consistent, and safe operation. Other valuable skills should be in the areas of administration, power plant operations, and cross-discipline technical skills that complement the technicians’ primary technical discipline.
and Responsibilities
- Responsible for maintenance, troubleshooting, diagnostics, installation, and repair of plant mechanical equipment. Equipment includes combustion turbines, steam turbines, pumps, fans, cooling towers, heat exchangers, valves, pipe, heat recovery steam generators, diesel engines, filters, and other mechanical equipment.
- Performs troubleshooting, diagnostics, installation, and repair of plant mechanical equipment.
- Initiates and follows-through on projects to improve plant processes and/or safety.
- Plans and implements the mechanical maintenance and preventative maintenance programs and oversees supplementary mechanical contractors during outages and provides QA/QC for work of contractors to ensure that CPS Energy's standards are met.
- Properly documents all current, past, and future work and/or improvements.
- Maintains thorough and professional level knowledge of safe work practices, in their discipline, such as:
Lock-out /Tag-out, High Pressure Steam System work, etc. - Recommends process improvements and trains others in all aspects of those improvements.
- Cross-trains other O&M Technicians, as assigned, to support plant maintenance needs.
- Participates in plant-sponsored operator and maintenance training and continuing training.
- Practices situational leadership, including safety and environmental stewardship.
- Perform tasks in inclement weather and hazardous environments.
- Perform 24-7 Call-Duty on a rotational basis to respond to abnormal system conditions.
- Dependable, reliable and predictable attendance is required.
- Must possess a valid, in-state motor vehicle operator’s license at all times.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Sr. Manager Plant Ops & Maintenance.
Minimum Knowledge and Abilities Fully developed professional technical skills in Millwright, Mechanic/Machinist, Welder or related field. Valid Class C Texas Driver’s License. The capability to perform advanced system and component level troubleshooting in their primary technical discipline. Fully developed, hands‑on, technician skills that go beyond a theoretical technical knowledge gained through a formal technical or engineering training program. Must be able to properly use all test equipment needed to troubleshoot and align mechanical equipment.
Must have a good theoretical and working knowledge of pumps, valves, rotating equipment, steam systems, hydraulics, and other combined cycle power plant equipment, etc. Must have the ability to read drawings, understand procedures and…
