Residential Solar Project Designer at Pure Energy Inc. San Antonio, TX

Overview

Pure Energy is recruiting for a Residential Solar Project Designer. This Designer will be responsible for review of project design, technical specifications, utility and permit approvals and quality control. The candidate will work in collaboration with our Master of Record and Installation Supervisor along with other individuals as needed. This opportunity is an in-office position at our Headquarters in San Antonio, TX.

• Review residential solar designs for electrical accuracy and code compliance
• Identify and correct issues (e.g., wire sizing, panel placement, overcurrent production)
• Ensure compliance with NEC, utility, and AHJ requirements
• Collaborate with designers to resolve discrepancies before permit submission
• Flag high-risk design elements or questionable field assumptions
• Maintain review logs, comments, and documentation in tracking systems
• Provide training and feedback to junior designers
• Stay current with code updates, utility rules, and solar tech changes
• Interpret site surveys and service data to support accurate design
• Assist project managers with asset commissioning
• Provide technical guidance during system installations
• Coordinate with utility providers and AHJs to address design feedback or kickbacks
• Assist in the preparation and finalization of as-built drawings to reflect completed installations
• All other duties and responsibilities as assigned

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering or 3-4 years of relevant hands-on experience in residential solar design (degree not required with equivalent experience)
• Strong knowledge of NEC, utility interconnection, and AHJ requirements
• Proficient with AutoCAD, Aurora, Helioscope, or similar design tools
• Ability to interpret site surveys, electrical data, and one-line diagrams
• Familiar with service panels, inverters, overcurrent protection, and CTs
• Detail-oriented with ability to flag code issues and design risks
• Strong communication and organizational skills
• Experience coordinating with utilities, AHJs, and internal team
