Summary
The QEHS Specialist position provides support to daily activities within the QEHS management system through the execution of various technical and administrative tasks. This person will work on site at our Atlanta and San Antonio facilities.
Responsibilities- Conduct new hire orientation and training of the QEHS Management System and other awareness and safety training as needed.
- Provide functional expertise and strategic direction with all levels of the organization to achieve an incident‑free workplace.
- Lead plant associates in incorporating continuous improvement principles and techniques.
- Report and review findings from accident investigations, facility inspections, or environmental testing.
- Collaborate with Human Resources and Plant Management to administer corrective action and validate effectiveness of implementation activities.
- Maintain site QEHS records within SharePoint and ERP systems.
- Research and write permit applications/renewals to ensure compliance with permit reporting requirements.
- Organize and maintain occupational exposure and industrial hygiene programs on an annual basis, ensuring compliance is always met.
- Conduct storm water sampling and report findings to the appropriate environmental agency.
- Facilitate the incident investigation process.
- Perform specific safety training as required by Compliance and Operations management.
- Develop and monitor Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) and maintain compliance records for JHAs.
- Monitor, evaluate, and maintain identification and outcomes of Important Aspects, Hazards, and Quality Risks.
- Conduct data integrity forensics with the ERP system to assure QA compliance requirements.
- Facilitate change‑management activities and maintain records.
- Chair Safety Committee meetings and maintain related records and corrective actions.
- Assist in emergency response, safety response, and first aid guidance.
- Maintain and update procedures and forms to ensure daily practice of safe work procedures and equipment use.
- Facilitate OSHA reporting requirements both internally and to external reporting authorities (local, state, and federal).
- Perform internal audits of the QEHS management system, write internal audit reports, and facilitate corrective and preventative actions.
- Support preparation activities and formal audit activities for certification audits.
- Experience maintaining confidentiality in matters involving security or personnel issues in the workplace.
- Minimum of 1 year in an Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) related field or a bachelor’s degree in a related field.
- Calm demeanor in emergency situations.
- Prepare and maintain facility check lists monthly and weekly as applicable.
- Monitor noise levels ranging from quiet to extremely loud as defined by operations procedures.
- Organize and maintain occupational exposure and industrial hygiene programs on an annual basis.
- Research and write permit applications/renewals to be compliant with permit reporting requirements.
- Maintain site QEHS records on SharePoint and HSI platform.
- Available to work flexible shifts including days, nights, and/or weekends.
- Demonstrated proficiency in time, organization, and project management.
- Ability to translate, statistically analyze data, and effectively report problems through written and/or graphical formats.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality on all issues related to the position.
- Detailed knowledge of essential functions and job duties assigned to other EHS positions.
- In-depth knowledge of QEHS regulations and regulatory requirements.
- Working knowledge of ISO
14001, ISO
45001, ISO
9001, or RIOS R2 standards. - Working knowledge of OSHA requirements; OSHA 30‑hour certification a plus.
- Strong computer skills; ability to learn company ERP system for data integrity for compliance.
- Willingness to obtain an OSHA 30‑hour certification if not already completed.
- B.S. degree in Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or a related science/engineering discipline preferred; equivalent education or related work experience also acceptable.
- 2+ years of related experience with ISO standards and OSHA requirements.
- Proficiency in a Windows‑based environment and all Microsoft Office programs with a high emphasis on Excel and SharePoint.
- Advanced math skills.
- Excellent working knowledge of English grammar;
Spanish a plus. - General knowledge of enterprise‑wide computer software systems desired.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently as well as within a team environment.
- Professional appearance and demeanor when interacting with internal and external customers.
