The Environmental Planning Manager plays a critical role in ensuring that industrial construction projects comply with environmental regulations and sustainability goals. This position oversees environmental assessments, permitting, and mitigation strategies across multiple project sites. The manager collaborates with engineering, construction, legal, and regulatory teams to integrate environmental planning into all phases of project development and execution.
Responsibilities- Lead environmental planning efforts for industrial construction projects, including site assessments, impact studies, and permitting.
- Develop and manage environmental compliance strategies aligned with federal, state, and local regulations (e.g., NEPA, Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act).
- Coordinate with regulatory agencies to secure necessary environmental permits and approvals.
- Conduct environmental risk assessments and recommend mitigation measures.
- Oversee preparation of Environmental Impact Statements (EIS), Environmental Assessments (EA), and other documentation.
- Monitor construction activities to ensure environmental compliance and implement corrective actions as needed.
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and contractors to integrate environmental requirements into project plans.
- Manage environmental consultants and contractors.
- Track and report environmental performance metrics and sustainability initiatives.
- Stay current on environmental laws, regulations, and industry best practices.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Urban Planning, or related field (Master’s preferred).
- 5+ years of experience in environmental planning, preferably in industrial or heavy construction.
- Strong knowledge of environmental regulations and permitting processes.
- Experience with environmental impact assessments and mitigation planning.
- Excellent project management and communication skills.
- Ability to interpret technical documents and regulatory language.
- Proficiency in GIS, environmental modeling tools, and Microsoft Office Suite.
Preferred
Skills:
- Professional certifications (e.g., AICP, CEP, PMP).
- Experience working with agencies such as EPA, USACE, and state environmental departments.
- Familiarity with sustainability frameworks and ESG reporting.
- Ability to lead cross-functional teams and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Office and field-based work.
- Occasional site visits to active construction zones.
- May require use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
