Sr Estimator - Heavy Civil/Highway/Underground Pipe

Join Sundt Construction as a Senior Estimator in our heavy civil team.

Job Summary

The Senior Estimator operates with minimal oversight on preconstruction teams, serving as the principal point of contact with the design team and the owner. They lead all types of project delivery methods and prepare detailed take-offs, solicit quotes, develop cost estimates, and close out bids.

Key Responsibilities
  • Advanced level HCSS knowledge of estimate entry and quote system tools.
  • Estimate all scopes related to their discipline area of expertise.
  • Perform detailed quantity take-offs on bid items and materials to develop all inclusive cost estimates.
  • Estimate unit costs by analyzing crew composition, production rates, and equipment selection.
  • Participate in detailed reviews, providing thorough explanation of the estimate.
  • Utilize relevant cost history database to verify production rates.
  • Prepare supplier bid packages to ensure self‑performed work has competitive material quotes.
  • Coordinate junior estimators and interns with takeoff and vendor solicitation processes.
  • Assist in obtaining firm quotes for material suppliers, equipment, and subcontractors.
  • Competent and thorough in discipline area of expertise, including Mass Earthwork, Geotechnical review, underground utilities, bridges and structures.
Minimum

Job Requirements
  • Proficient use of Microsoft Office Suite.
  • LEED accreditation and DBIA certification preferred or willingness to obtain.
  • Four‑year engineering degree or equivalent technical training and related experience.
  • Ten or more years of experience in an estimating role.
  • Successful history executing projects as prime point of contact with minimal oversight.
  • Experience in key market sectors identified by the business unit.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to wear personal protective equipment.
  • May reach above shoulder heights and below the waist on a frequent basis.
  • May stoop, kneel, or bend on an occasional basis.
  • May use telephone, computer system, email, or other electronic devices on a limited basis to communicate with internal and external customers or vendors.
  • Must be able to comply with all safety standards and procedures.
  • Occasionally will climb stairs, ladders, etc.
  • Required to use hands to grasp, lift, handle, carry or feel objects on a frequent basis.
  • Will interact with people frequently during a shift/work day.
  • Will lift, push, or pull objects on an occasional basis.
  • Will sit, stand or walk short distances for up to the entire duration of a shift/work day.
