Mechanical Engineering Expert (AI Training) About

The Role

We're partnering with the world's leading AI research teams to make cutting-edge language models smarter, safer, and more technically rigorous — and we need mechanical engineers to help us do it.

As a Mechanical Engineering Expert, you'll stress-test advanced AI systems on topics like fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, structural mechanics, and mechatronics. You'll design problems that expose the limits of AI reasoning, author gold-standard solutions, and provide the structured feedback that helps these models think better.

This is a rare opportunity to apply your deep technical knowledge to a field that's reshaping the world — on your own schedule, from anywhere.

  • Organization:
    Alignerr
  • Type:
    Hourly Contract
  • Location:

    Remote
  • Commitment: 10–40 hours/week
What You'll Do
  • Design Challenging Problems — Craft advanced mechanical engineering problems across domains including FEA (Finite Element Analysis), heat transfer, kinematics, material science, and mechatronics to rigorously test AI performance
  • Author Ground-Truth Solutions — Develop precise, step-by-step technical solutions and benchmark responses that serve as the standard for AI learning
  • Audit AI Outputs — Evaluate AI-generated CAD logic, thermodynamic proofs, and material specifications for technical accuracy, safety, and compliance with engineering standards (e.g., ASME, ISO)
  • Improve AI Reasoning — Identify logical errors in AI outputs — such as incorrect force distributions, flawed energy conservation arguments, or invalid material assumptions — and deliver structured feedback to improve model quality
Who You Are
  • Pursuing or holding a Master's or PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a closely related field
  • Strong foundational expertise in one or more core areas: solid mechanics, fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, CAD/CAM, or manufacturing processes
  • Able to communicate complex physical phenomena and technical reasoning clearly and concisely in writing
  • Highly detail-oriented when reviewing mathematical derivations, unit conversions, and physical system constraints
  • No prior AI experience required — your engineering knowledge is what matters
Nice to Have
  • Experience with data annotation, data quality, or evaluation workflows
  • Familiarity with engineering software such as Solid Works, MATLAB, or ANSYS
  • Background in technical writing or academic publishing
Why Join Us
  • Work on cutting-edge AI projects alongside top research labs and AI teams
  • Fully remote and flexible — work on your own schedule, at your own pace
  • Freelance perks: autonomy, variety, and collaboration with experts across the globe
  • Make a direct, meaningful impact on how AI understands and reasons through engineering problems
  • Potential for ongoing work and contract extension
