Company Description

The Neighborhood Assistance Corporation of America (NACA) is a nationwide non-profit organization dedicated to economic justice through affordable home ownership and community advocacy. Since 1988, NACA has led efforts against predatory lending and offers its “Best in America Mortgage,” featuring no down payment, no closing costs, no fees, no mortgage insurance, and a below-market fixed interest rate. Using a character-based lending approach, NACA makes home ownership accessible to individuals who may not have perfect credit, and its “Home Save” program has helped over 250,000 homeowners modify unaffordable loans and remain in their homes.

NACA’s “Achieve the Dream” events provide streamlined, same-day mortgage pre-qualifications for thousands of participants across the country. As the largest HUD-certified counseling agency in the U.S., NACA serves communities through 47 offices, more than three million members, and billions of dollars committed to NACA mortgages by major financial institutions.

Role Description

The NACA Counselor is a full-time, on-site role based in San Antonio, TX, providing direct housing and financial counseling to members pursuing affordable home ownership or loan modification. In this role, the Counselor conducts one-on-one and group counseling sessions, reviews financial documents, assesses affordability, and guides members through budgeting, debt management, and credit improvement strategies. The Counselor prepares and submits complete files for mortgage qualification or Home Save assistance, maintaining accurate records and ensuring compliance with NACA and HUD guidelines.

This position collaborates with local community partners, participates in outreach events, and supports NACA’s “Achieve the Dream” and other initiatives by educating attendees about program requirements and opportunities. The Counselor works closely with members throughout the process, providing ongoing follow-up, advocacy, and support to help them achieve sustainable home ownership and long-term financial stability.

  • Organizational and documentation skills for managing multiple cases, maintaining accurate records, and meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Comfort working with diverse communities, with a commitment to economic justice, fair lending, and NACA’s mission-driven approach.
  • Proficiency with standard office software and data entry; ability to learn NACA-specific systems and follow procedural guidelines.
  • Prior experience in housing counseling, social services, banking, mortgage, or related fields
