CompensationCadet Salary Range: $51,255 annualized.
Police Officer Salary Range: $65,750 annualized.
Senior Police Officer Salary Range: $76,000 annualized, commensurate with experience and qualifications.

Cadet – Attend and complete the University of Texas System Police Academy to qualify for commissioning as a peace officer of the UT System. Next academy cohort begins May 2026.
Police Officer and Senior Police Officer – Provide service, information, and aid to citizens; prevent crime, investigate offenses, and arrest offenders. Responsibilities include maintaining campus safety, enforcing laws, and collaborating with law enforcement agencies.
Core Responsibilities Cadet- Attend classes and maintain comprehensive notebooks.
- Prepare research papers and complete homework assignments.
- Participate in physical training, firearms training, defensive tactics, and practical problem‑solving.
- Engage in classroom discussions and group projects.
- Comply with Academy rules, instructions from the Director of Police, and policies of related departments.
- Promote safety by reporting unsafe situations and participating in safety training.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Ensure safety and welfare of campus community and property under UT System jurisdiction.
- Police property by vehicle or on foot.
- Preserve peace, investigate crimes, and conduct evidence collection.
- Provide directions, prepare crime analysis reports, and conduct risk assessments.
- Enforce traffic law, investigate collisions, issue citations, and prepare activity reports.
- Monitor and evaluate staff members.
- Collaborate with prosecuting attorneys and appear as witness in court.
- Promote safety by reporting hazards and participating in training.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Participate in Field Training Program and instructor training.
- Compile and file cases with District Attorney’s office.
- Valid Texas driver’s license.
- High School or GED equivalency.
- Maintain security and integrity of UT San Antonio infrastructure.
- Be at least 21 years old upon commissioning.
- U.S. citizen.
- No convictions or disqualifying criminal history; meet all background checks.
- Honorable discharge from military service if applicable.
- Pass written entry‑level exam, physical agility test, polygraph, and background investigation.
- Completion of Basic Peace Officer Course or equivalent academy.
- Hold or be able to obtain UT System Peace Officer Commission.
- Meet physical, mental, educational, age, and experience prerequisites set by the Director of Police, Board of Regents, and Texas Commission on Law Enforcement.
- Senior Police Officer requires five years of related licensed peace officer experience.
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university.
- Four years of active military duty with honorable discharge.
- Six months experience as Police Guard, Telecommunications Operator, or similar position requiring UT System Police Uniform.
- Knowledge and skills in firearms, investigation equipment, photography, radio, alarms, restraining devices, keys, and emergency motor vehicles.
