JobPurpose and Summary
The Pharmacy Manager Emerging Leader (PMEL) plays a critical role in cultivating a culture of excellence in our retail pharmacy by acting as a role model, demonstrating genuine care, and setting the bar for the pharmacy team while developing leadership skills in preparation for increased responsibility. As a PMEL you will build upon your skills and responsibilities as a Staff or District Support Pharmacist and complete a self‑paced training roadmap that prepares you to lead a pharmacy independently.
The program typically takes 3‑6 months to complete.
- Live our purpose by improving patient health through safe and appropriate dispensing, counseling, and immunizing practices.
- Take direction from the Pharmacy Manager and oversee the pharmacy as their proxy during bench shifts without overlap, strengthening performance measures through coaching and follow‑up.
- Assume Pharmacy Manager’s day‑to‑day duties when serving as the only or primary pharmacist‑on‑duty.
- Support safe and accurate prescription fulfillment by following and directing the team to follow pharmacy workflow procedures and safety guardrails at every workstation.
- Contribute to positive patient experiences by showing empathy, coaching the team, and resolving insurance or medication issues proactively.
- Offer and deliver immunizations to keep patients healthy; engage Pharmacy Technicians in learning to immunize.
- Manage pharmacy inventory, coaching the team on best practices and protecting cold‑chain products.
- Ensure pharmacy operations comply with state Board of Pharmacy regulations and promptly address issues with the Pharmacy Manager or Rx DL.
- Remain flexible for scheduling and business needs; support the Pharmacy Manager by writing schedules and ensuring compliance with state and local requirements.
- Maintain relevant clinical and technical skills, pursue continuing education, and seek opportunities to expand knowledge to better support patients.
- Support access to care and improve outcomes through pharmacist‑delivered clinical care (e.g., COVID/Flu, hormonal contraception) where permissible.
- Understand and comply with all federal and state laws, professional standards, ethical principles, and CVS Health policies related to patient safety and controlled substances.
- Regular and predictable attendance, including nights and weekends.
- Ability to complete required training within the designated timeframe.

- Confirm prescription information and label accuracy to ensure patient safety.

- Use math to solve problems such as determining total tablets, day’s supply, or number of bottles needed.

- Identify challenging interactions and choose the best course of action among options.
- Physical Demands:
- Be mobile, remain upright for extended periods, lift and move items, reach overhead, and perform repetitive finger tasks.
