Medical Assistant-Intermediate (HOPD Rehab Medicine MARC)

Under general supervision, responsible for general clinical duties such as taking vital signs, giving injections, performing simple diagnostic tests, collecting specimens, sterilizing and cleaning equipment, and maintaining examination rooms at an outpatient care site. May perform some administrative duties and support the documentation of patient records as dictated by the physician or provider.

• Intake patients by obtaining vital signs and weight.
• Obtain history, chief complaint, medications, allergies, and document appropriately in the EMR.
• Report all pertinent findings to physicians.
• Manage patient appointments according to the physicians schedules and protocols. Answer messages from patients by clinic policy.
• Handle all medication refills or requests via clinic policy.
• Prepare charts as necessary for next scheduled clinic; provide physician with test results, lab results, and medical records as requested.
• Communicate all necessary patient information to the physician in a timely manner.
• Handle and answer external as well as internal phone calls and assist in department call center by transferring calls to appropriate departments.
• Perform Point of Care Testing (POCT), document and report clinical findings to the Registered Nurse (RN) in charge and/or Provider.
• Performs all other duties as assigned.

• Demonstrates analytical thinking and the ability to coordinate work within schedule constraints and handle emergent requirements in a timely manner.
• Participates as an integral part of the interdisciplinary healthcare team to provide the highest quality of care.
• Knowledge of EPIC software; may be required to be EPIC super user.
• Meets all training and competency requirements.
• Three (3) years of directly-related experience as a Medical Assistant is required.
