Summary

This position is for the Medical Supply Distribution (MSD) areas of the Logistics Service in a Veteran Affairs Health Care System (VA HCS) and the supported catchment area.

Qualifications

Applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement (01/19/2026). Time-in-grade and experience requirements are outlined below.

Time‑In‑Grade Requirement:
For a GS‑06 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS‑05 (in any occupation within the Federal service). An SF‑50 must be submitted with your application. If the most recent SF‑50 is from within the past year, an additional SF‑50 must be provided to demonstrate one‑year time‑in‑grade.

One (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS‑5 level in the Federal service, related to Lead Supply Technician duties, is required. Specialized experience may include distributing supplies, scanning, bar‑coding, receiving, storing, training, inventory management, and maintaining stock levels.

Duties
  • Lead Supply Technician role for MSD areas of Logistics Service within the VA Health Care System.
  • Ensure supplies and materials are distributed to all serviced areas (wards, clinics, operating rooms, secondary storage, and other hospital facilities).
  • Distribute and balance workload among employees and assure timely accomplishment of assigned workload.
  • Monitor status and progress of work, making day‑to‑day adjustments according to established priorities.
  • Maintain current knowledge, answer questions of employees on procedures, policies, and directives, and obtain needed information or decisions from supervisors.
  • Maintain stock at primary and secondary inventory locations, including pulling, replenishing, and recording stock levels.
  • Perform inventory using bar‑code equipment and resolve differences between records and physical counts.
  • Ensure areas are cleaned in accordance with aseptic principles, infection control guidelines, local SOPs, and Joint Commission standards.
  • Receive supplies and materials into the catchment area, unpacking and stowing as required, while maintaining sterility and data integrity.
  • Coordinate with clinical and administrative customers and outside vendors to resolve operating issues related to supply management.
  • Work Schedule:

    Full‑time 3:30 pm – 12:00 am, Monday–Friday, rotating schedule (weekends and holidays).
  • Telework:
    Position may be authorized for telework; eligibility discussed during interview.
Physical Requirements and Work Environment

Work requires standing, walking, frequent bending, lifting supply packages (occasionally up to 50 lb), and pushing loaded carts (over 100 lb). Employees must operate ADP equipment such as bar‑code scanners, computers, and printers across various hospital environments, including wards, storage buildings, warehouses, and operating rooms. Potential hazards include trips, falls, scrapes, cuts, bruises, and injuries.

Driver's License Requirement

Must possess a current, valid state‑issued driver's license, to be presented at interview.
