We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Database Architect & Modeler to join our team as we migrate our insurance application to a cloud-based Guidewire platform
. This platform will support millions of users, and we need a leader who can set database standards, ensure best practices, and support scalability, maintainability, and performance across the system. This role is a unique blend of Database Administration (DBA) and Data Modeler, requiring expertise in both 3NF normalization and dimensional modeling. You will work closely with software/data engineers to ensure consistency in database design and implementation, troubleshoot performance issues, and support the migration to production environments.
Database Standards & Best Practices:
Establish and enforce database design standards, ensuring consistency, scalability, and maintainability across the platform.
Development Support:
Lead database-related aspects of the development in Guidewire platform, ensuring high availability, low latency and scalability.
Performance Optimization:
Identify and resolve database performance issues, ensuring the platform can handle millions of users.
Collaboration with Engineers:
Work closely with software/data engineers to ensure database standards are adhered to during development and migration.
Data Modeling:
Design and implement 3NF normalization models and dimensional models.
Cloud Database Expertise:
Work with cloud-based databases such as Aurora Postgre
SQL and analytical platforms like Snowflake.
Production Support:
Provide hands‑on support during production outages, troubleshooting issues, and ensuring system stability.
Qualifications
Experience
- 10+ years of experience in database architecture, modeling, and administration.
- Successfully led 3+ large-scale database projects, covering the key responsibilities outlined above.
- Extensive experience with 3NF normalization (dozens of projects) and dimensional modeling (2+ projects).
- Hands‑on experience with operational databases like Aurora Postgre
SQL and analytical databases like Snowflake. - Proven track record of working with large engineering teams in a fast‑paced environment.
Technical Skills
- Strong knowledge of relational databases, cloud-based databases, and data modeling concepts.
- Familiarity with ETL development and data integration processes.
- Experience working with modeling tools like Erwin.
- Experience working with database monitoring tools like Datadog.
- Experience with SaaS platforms like Guidewire platform is a plus.
Soft Skills
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
- Strong problem‑solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex database issues.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in the insurance or financial services industry.
- Familiarity with Agile/Scrum methodologies.
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, Dev Ops.
- Familiarity with metadata management tools.
- Familiarity with event streaming platforms like Kafka.
- Familiarity with modeling for structured and semi‑structured data.
- Certifications in cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, etc.) or database technologies.
