The candidate for this exciting opportunity will need to be living in the San Antonio, Texas area. This role will require 3 to 4 days per week at the One Frost Corporate Campus office. Frost will help with relocation costs to move to San Antonio, Texas if one is not currently living in San Antonio, Texas.

As a Staff Engineer – AI, you are our subject matter expert, leading technical efforts on AI reliability, bias mitigation, and drift detection. What You’ll Do
  • Architect intelligent systems and workflows that involve agentic behavior and LLM decision-making
  • Drive design sessions for agent loop architectures, tool orchestration, and task planning
  • Lead technical efforts on AI reliability, bias mitigation, and drift detection
  • Collaborate with product and design leaders to define outcomes and performance metrics
  • Act as a system designer and workflow architect, not just a code implementer
  • Optimize performance of agentic systems with caching, throttling, and fallback strategies
  • Mentor engineers in best practices for LLM prompting, agent decomposition, and tool design
  • Oversee the entire AI & advanced analytics lifecycle: architecture, design, development, deployment, and optimization of AI-powered systems
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to software developers and AI engineers across programs and systems
  • Shape and execute the AI platform roadmap, focusing on modules like inference engines, document intelligence, and conversational agents
  • Partner with Product, Data Science, Security, and Compliance to translate business needs into scalable, secure technical solutions
  • Drive hands-on implementation of microservices, APIs, and real-time AI features—reviewing code and fostering best practices
  • Monitor system health and performance; optimize production systems for reliability, latency, and security
  • Research and pilot new AI technologies, frameworks, and methods to continuously improve capabilities
  • Always take action using Integrity, Caring, and Excellence to achieve all-win outcomes
What You’ll Need
  • Bachelor’s in Computer Science, Data Science, or related field
  • 6+ years of experience with enterprise-grade AI/ML systems
  • Deep understanding of event-driven design, API orchestration, prompt engineering, tool orchestration, planner/verifier roles, and system modularity
  • Strong skills in prompt engineering, memory and context handling, and agent loop optimization
  • Extensive experience with AI/ML tools:
    PyTorch, Tensor Flow, MLflow, Hugging Face Transformers, FastAPI, Lang Chain, vector databases, and agent loop architectures
  • Deep familiarity with microservices, container technologies (Docker/Kubernetes), and API architectures
  • Ability to integrate LLMs and ML models into critical systems securely and at scale
  • Strong hands-on skills in Python (ML frameworks) and Java/Type Script…
