About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Interface Software Engineer with a strong background in laboratory informatics and healthcare data systems. The ideal candidate will have hands‑on experience designing, developing, and maintaining interfaces and integrations within Lab Ware or Lab Vantage LIMS environments.

This role focuses on ensuring seamless data exchange between laboratory systems, instruments, and enterprise platforms (such as LIS, EHR, ERP, and middleware systems), while maintaining compliance with regulatory and data integrity standards.

You will collaborate closely with laboratory operations, IT, and data management teams to build reliable, secure, and efficient integrations that support clinical, research, and diagnostic workflows.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, and maintain interfaces between Lab Ware / Lab Vantage LIMS and other systems including LIS, EHR (e.g., Epic, Cerner), instruments, middleware, and data warehouses.
  • Implement and manage HL7, FHIR, XML, JSON, and REST/SOAP web service integrations to support healthcare data interoperability.
  • Utilize tools such as Lab Ware Interface Manager, Lab Vantage Integration Engine, or custom integration frameworks for data exchange.
  • Configure and manage communication protocols (TCP/IP, MLLP, FTP/SFTP) to ensure secure, reliable message delivery.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve interface errors, ensuring minimal downtime and data integrity across systems.
System Configuration & Customization
  • Collaborate with LIMS administrators and business analysts to define and implement interface requirements.
  • Customize LIMS workflows, triggers, and data mappings to align with laboratory processes and data structures.
  • Maintain documentation of interface specifications, workflows, and change management records.
  • Support software validation, testing, and deployment in compliance with 21 CFR Part 11, HIPAA, and other regulatory frameworks.
  • Partner with IT, QA, and data teams to ensure data consistency and alignment with organizational standards.
  • Participate in system upgrades, migrations, and integration projects as part of digital transformation initiatives.
  • Proactively identify opportunities to enhance performance, reliability, and scalability of integration solutions.
  • Provide technical support, training, and mentorship to internal stakeholders and junior developers.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Bioinformatics, or related technical field.
  • 5+ years of experience developing and maintaining system interfaces in healthcare or laboratory environments.
  • Hands‑on experience with Lab Ware or Lab Vantage LIMS (required).
  • Strong proficiency in interface technologies and standards: HL7, FHIR, REST APIs, XML, JSON, and SQL.
  • Experience with integration platforms such as Mule Soft, Mirth Connect, Rhapsody, or Cloverleaf.
  • Solid understanding of laboratory workflows, instrument integration, and data lifecycle management.
  • Familiarity with database technologies (SQL Server, Oracle, Postgre

    SQL) and Microsoft tech stack.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to work independently in a regulated environment.
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills.
Preferred Skills
  • Experience with Lab Ware LIMS Basic or Lab Vantage LIMS configuration and customization.
  • Understanding of ELN integrations and laboratory automation systems.
  • Knowledge of Azure or cloud‑based integration architectures.
  • Exposure to data governance, data quality, and master data management frameworks.
  • Familiarity with GxP, CLIA, CAP, or FDA compliance standards.
