Job Summary
:
As part of the Business Affairs Strategic Communications team, the Web Developer will be responsible for designing, developing and maintaining complex websites and web applications using advanced web authoring code.
- Implement web functionality utilizing current advanced web authoring code based on client interface to determine needs and specifications.
- Consult with Business Affairs Strategic Communications team members, as well as clients throughout the division, to determine goals and requirements for the development and deployment of websites and applications.
- Design and develop web page text and visual content, navigational links and page layout using advanced web authoring code and web accessibility/usability best practices. Designs or integrates graphics, business content and databases as appropriate to develop feature‑rich web applications.
- Document design flow, installation and operating procedures as needed or as assigned.
- Meet with team members, as well as clients throughout the division as appropriate, to evaluate and modify websites and respond to inquiries regarding errors, problems or questions on websites.
- Monitor performance of websites after implementation.
- Manage assignments, including web maintenance tasks, creation of new pages or sites and more, ensuring work is completed in a timely manner and following the team’s project processes and customer service standards.
- Research new methods, techniques and software and make appropriate recommendations to ensure state of the art web design.
- Compile, analyze and report website utilization statistics.
- Conduct usability testing to determine website functionality relevant to client needs and ease of use.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Associate’s degree from an accredited institution.
- Experience may be substituted for education on a one for one basis.
- Three (3) years of experience in client‑driven website and web application architecture and development using advanced web authoring code.
- This position requires the ability to maintain the security and integrity of UT San Antonio and its infrastructure.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Systems, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or related field from an accredited institution.
- Four (4) plus years of experience in client‑driven website and web application architecture and development using advanced web authoring code.
- Knowledge of HTML and advanced web authoring languages (including JavaScript and CSS frameworks such as Bootstrap) and graphic design software.
- Knowledge of computer programming techniques and computer languages.
- Knowledge of and demonstrated experience working with Content Management Systems (CMS).
- Knowledge of database design standards and database management.
- Excellent sense of visual and structural design.
- Ability to troubleshoot hardware and software problems and utilize creativity and problem‑solving skills.
- Strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
- Excellent interpersonal skills to interface with clients with a service‑oriented attitude to determine needs assessments.
- Advanced written communication skills.
- Office Environment.
- Occasional extended work hours may be required to meet deadlines.
- Sedentary work; sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary, if walking and standing are required, only occasionally.
