Immigration Paralegal; Removal, Deportation + Defense

Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced Immigration Paralegal to support attorneys in our Removal/Deportation Defense department. This role involves handling a variety of removal defense matters, with a strong emphasis on detainee representation and bond work. The ideal candidate will have at least 2 years of relevant immigration experience, be fluent in Spanish, and be able to thrive in a fast-paced, high-volume legal environment.

This position plays a critical role in providing compassionate and effective support to individuals facing removal proceedings.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

• None.

Duties/Responsibilities:

• Assist attorneys with all aspects of removal and deportation defense, including case preparation, filing applications, and client communication.
• Support attorneys in detainee and bond cases, including gathering supporting documentation, coordinating with detention facilities, and preparing filings under tight deadlines.
• Draft, proofread, and edit legal documents, correspondence and immigration forms.
• Maintain and organize client case files, supporting documents, and case notes using legal document management systems (e.g., INSZoom).
• Communicate professionally with clients, courts, detention centers, and government agencies.
• Manage attorney calendars, schedule appointments, and support administrative functions related to case progression.
• Maintain accurate and detailed records of case activities, filings, and deadlines.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities:

• Fluent in both English and Spanish (Required).
• At least 2 years of immigration law experience, with specific experience in removal defense or detainee representation.
• Solid understanding of immigration court procedures and related legal processes.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• High attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple.
• Proficient in legal software and case management systems, such as INSZoom.
• Ability to handle sensitive client information with discretion and maintain confidentiality.
• Strong interpersonal skills and a compassionate approach to working with clients.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite or related software.

Education and Experience:

• Associate degree in Paralegal Studies or a related field preferred.
• Minimum 2+ years of immigration law experience required, preferably in removal defense or detainee-related cases.
• Prior experience with INSZoom or similar case management software preferred.

Physical Requirements:

• Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
• Must be able to lift to 15 pounds at times.
