Traveling General Superintendent – Aviation role at JE Dunn Construction
. This position reports into the National Aviation Vertical and requires 100% travel to project sites in the United States.
The General Superintendent will develop and execute the project plan and oversee all aspects of assigned projects with significant complexity. This role is responsible for managing the team, planning all construction sequencing and meeting project goals, in alignment with JE Dunn’s strategy, vision and values.
Responsibilities- Leads all aspects of the company’s safety culture and creates awareness by demonstrating a commitment to an injury‑free environment through personal actions and mentoring others. Investigates safety incidents and retrains staff as needed.
- Manages subcontractors and organizes the overall job workflow.
- Oversees company staff, subcontractors, suppliers and programs such as Safety, Quality and EEO for small projects or major portions of larger projects.
- Develops work plans for subcontractors and self‑performed work.
- Coordinates and manages care, custody and control of the project site.
- Leads meetings, including daily standups and weekly trade meetings.
- Attends, manages and participates in progress and/or project OAC meetings.
- Creates, manages, updates and implements the project schedule in coordination with the Project Manager.
- May track and monitor project budget and costs using project management systems and data from the Project Manager.
- Communicates key project information to owners, design teams, governing authorities, subcontractors, suppliers and other departments.
- Maintains project filing and documentation systems; updates drawings, logs and inspection notebooks.
- Approves and/or records unit cost information for weekly reports and completes daily reports, logs and tracking reports.
- Evaluates progress on self‑perform work and makes necessary adjustments.
- Manages material and equipment needs for the project.
- Supports procurement and approval processes (MOC and Dunn Logistics Service Center).
- Assists in selecting formwork, tools and equipment for self‑perform operations.
- Manages timecard approval to ensure accurate hours and proper cost codes.
- Ensures quality compliance through specifications, QA/QC and external resources.
- Supports project closeouts by supervising pre‑punch activities and coordinating with the owner, architect and governing authorities.
- Gains understanding of the project pursuit process and methodology.
- Participates with field operations leadership and the project team to develop a pre‑plan and to monitor and adjust through the project lifecycle.
- Partners with field leadership to establish field staffing for the project.
- Partners with project management to identify schedule and cost impacts of project changes.
- Participates in negotiations with owners and architects to gain agreement on project changes.
- Participates in project review meetings, monthly reviews and other key project meetings.
- Participates in pre‑bid/buyout meetings with subcontractors and vendors.
- Understands and applies the terms and conditions of owner and subcontractor contracts.
- Identifies and recruits top talent and promotes a culture of diversity and inclusion, in line with JE Dunn’s non‑discrimination policy.
- Manages the largest, most complex stand‑alone and/or multiple complex projects from initial planning to completion.
- Provides management and/or oversight to multiple projects and project teams.
- Provides input, leads and executes company and regional strategic initiatives.
- Participates in the development of relevant company training content and the selection and development of internal subject matter experts.
- Delivers leadership messages effectively to multiple audiences both internally and externally.
- Ability to perform work accurately, completely and in a timely manner.
- Advanced verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to conduct effective presentations (Advanced).
- Proficiency in MS Office (Intermediate).
- Fundamentals of construction management and project processes that support successful completion.
