Position Summary
:
The Laboratory Instrumentation Specialist will support the operation and maintenance of Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry instrumentation including but not limited to a Bruker NMR , ICP
-MS HPLC , GC-MS, FT-IR, and UV-vis. The Laboratory Instrumentation Specialist reports to the Dean, School of Mathematics, Science, and Engineering.

Job Duties
  • Assure NMR cryogenic liquid supply.
  • Perform preventative maintenance, minor repairs and modifications.
  • Assist faculty and students in sample collection.
  • Assure proper safety practices.
  • Develop and implement training protocols.
  • Order supplies for all instruments.
  • Serve as a point of contact for instrumentation issues that need to be communicated to the full instrumentation committee and/or department chair.
  • Provide method development and instrumentation setup support for various projects in the department.
  • Provide general support or feedback for a variety of instrument related departmental needs including:
    • Ordering and receiving supplies needed for instrument repair, maintenance, and use
    • Closing out POs related to instruments
    • Serving on the Instrumentation Committee for which duties include advising on equipment purchases, obtaining quotes for instrumentation, and developing processes for instrument training and use.
    • Coordinating with safety committee on recommendations involving personnel and instrument safety concerns.
  • Teach as instructor of record (up to 50% load) as assigned by the department chair and dean.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
    • Experience in working with a wide range of analytical instrumentation and strong electronic troubleshooting skills.
    • Strong electronic troubleshooting skills with a wide range of analytical instrumentation.
    • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Strong proficiency in desktop computer systems and instrument data system.
    • Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures.
    • Employee shall adhere to all applicable rules and regulations of the University, the Conference, and the NCAA.
  • Required Education
    :
    Master’s Degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering or a related field.
  • Required Work Experience
    :
    Three (3) years of experience with desktop computer systems and instrument data system.
  • Preferred Qualifications
    • Ph.D. in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or related field.
    • Experience with other forms of spectroscopy, chromatography, and related instrumentation is desirable.
  • Required Certifications, Licenses or Registrations
    : N/A.
Work Hours

Monday through Friday 8am to 5pm with extended hours as needed to meet departmental goals.

Physical Demands

May lift up to 20 pounds of lab supplies and/or equipment.
