Job Description:
Experienced CNC Lathe Operator
Employment Type: Full-Time, Permanent
Shift: 1st Shift
Compensation: $22-28 per hour depending on experience.
About the Role
We are seeking a skilled and reliable Experienced CNC Lathe Operator to join our precision machining team. The ideal candidate has 5+ years of hands‑on experience setting up and operating CNC lathes in a job shop or production environment. You will be responsible for producing high‑quality parts to tight tolerances.
Key Responsibilities
- Independently set up and operate 2‑axis and 4‑axis CNC lathes with live‑tooling
- Read and interpret engineering drawings
- Select, mount, and indicate jaws, collets, fixtures, and tooling
- Perform in‑process inspections using precision measuring tools (micrometers, calipers, bore gauges, thread gauges, etc.)
- Troubleshoot and resolve machining issues (tool wear, surface finish, dimensional drift)
- Perform routine machine maintenance and keep work area clean and organized
- Deburr and clean parts as needed
- Complete production paperwork and router travelers accurately
- Assist with proving out new programs or fixtures
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of recent CNC lathe setup/operating experience in a metalworking environment
- Experience with live tooling, Y‑axis, and sub‑spindle work
- Strong proficiency with Fanuc or Mori Seiki (DMG Mori) controls
- Ability to edit G‑code and adjust offsets, wear comps, and work coordinates
- Solid understanding of GD&T
- Experience machining a variety of materials: stainless steel, aluminum, tool steel, titanium, Inconel, plastics, etc.
- Experience holding tight tolerances (±0.001″ or better)
- Basic math skills for measurements and calculations essential for machining tasks
- Reliable attendance and strong work ethic
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and stand for extended periods
- Programming experience (Fusion 360, Mastercam, Esprit, or G‑code from scratch)
- Familiarity with Lean manufacturing, 5S, and continuous improvement
