Position OverviewThe Quality Control Lab Technician I supports the cement manufacturing process by collecting samples and performing routine chemical and physical tests on raw materials, intermediate materials, and finished cement products. This role focuses on accurate sample preparation, testing, documentation, and communication of results in accordance with ASTM standards and internal Capitol Cement procedures.
Principal Duties And Accountabilities (Essential Functions)- Collects samples of raw materials, intermediate materials, and finished cement products throughout the manufacturing process following established sampling procedures.
- Prepares samples for routine chemical and physical testing in accordance with standard operating procedures.
- Performs assigned laboratory tests accurately and consistently under established methods.
- Records test results and observations clearly and accurately using written, verbal, or electronic systems.
- Communicates test results, sample issues, or equipment concerns promptly to senior QC staff or supervision.
- Assists with maintaining laboratory equipment, tools, vehicles, and work areas in a clean, organized, and safe condition.
- Follows all plant safety policies, quality procedures, and MSHA regulations at all times.

RequiredSkills And Abilities
- Ability to read, understand, and follow written and verbal instructions, including laboratory procedures and safety rules.
- Basic math skills and attention to detail required to accurately perform tests and document results.
- Ability to communicate clearly and work effectively with supervisors and coworkers.
- Willingness to learn cement manufacturing processes, laboratory testing methods, and quality standards.
- Ability to accurately record data and maintain clear, organized documentation.
- Ability to work as part of a team while also completing assigned tasks independently once trained.
- Demonstrates care in handling laboratory equipment, tools, and chemicals.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Previous experience in a cement plant, laboratory, or manufacturing environment is helpful but not required.
- Entry-level position intended for individuals developing technical and quality control skills.
- Ability to follow all company, plant, and MSHA safety policies and procedures.
- Ability to take direction from QC Tech II, QC Tech III, and supervision.
- Demonstrates reliability through consistent attendance and punctuality.
- Ability to exercise good judgment when identifying issues and escalating concerns to senior QC staff.
- Commitment to maintaining a clean, safe, and organized work environment.
