Lead Tutor (Refugee School Impact Program)

Summary:
Under the supervision of the Program Director, the Lead Tutor provides direct supportive service for refugee children and their families to promote effective integration, education, and successful transition to the public school systems. The role involves operating the tutoring program during school day, after‑school, and the New Arrivals Summer Program, serving newly arrived refugee children.
Work Hours:
8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Workdays:
Monday – Friday
- Work on multiple school campuses to tutor refugee school‑aged children in groups and one‑on‑one, supporting them academically.
- Design and lead enrichment activities, act as a mentor, and encourage student participation throughout the school year and summer program.
- Assists with direct client‑supportive services and academic support, providing referrals for refugee students.
- Input and retrieve data regularly using databases and Excel spreadsheets.
- Transport clients when necessary in the agency vehicle to and from program sites.
- Participate in daily maintenance and care of the donated classroom space.
- Assist when needed to register and enroll eligible students into the program, using interpretation services.
- Conduct home visits as needed to reach families and eliminate barriers.
- Maintain client case files.
- Lead/teach leveled classes in the summer for newly arrived refugee youth in the newcomer summer program.
- Report on activities, visits, and special client concerns to the Program Director and staff.
- Picks up, sorts supplies/donations, and delivers donations to clients.
- Present cultural orientations for parents of school‑aged children.
- Provide flexibility with work schedule; may be asked to work weekends and evenings.
- Work in a fast‑paced environment, monitoring many students simultaneously.
- Complete all required professional development in a timely manner.
- Show sensitivity to the cultural and socioeconomic characteristics of the service population.

- Bachelor’s degree in education, social service, or business‑related field.
- Minimum of 1 year working in a social service environment with sensitivity to diverse cultural populations (preferred).
- Must have a clean driving record, reliable transportation, valid driver’s license, vehicle insurance, and ability to operate an agency 12‑passenger van as needed.
- Must be 21 years of age or older and comply with CCAOSA policy.
- 1 year of experience in a social service environment with sensitivity to cultural diversity.
- Proficient with personal computer, various software, email, Microsoft Word & Excel.
- Detail oriented, organized, self‑motivated, works independently and in a team.
- Strong written and verbal communication.
- Critical thinking and problem‑solving skills.
- Maintains ethical boundaries and professional client relationships.

This is a grant‑funded position and salary is dependent on funding availability. The position can be eliminated at any time due to lack of funding.
