Perioperative Services Overview

?

Perioperative Services at CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Westover Hills is presently operating 1 CVOR, 6 ORs, 2 Endo suites, 11 PACU beds, 20 SDS beds and the Sterile Processing Department. We support a variety of specialties including General, Colorectal, GYN, Ortho, Spine, Vascular, Robotic, Urology, Bariatrics, Plastics, Gastroenterology, Interventional Radiology, Infusion/Transfusion services, as well as Interventional Cardiology. The Peri‑Anesthesia department consists of Pre‑Op, PACU (Phase I) and Phase II Recovery.

All the Peri‑Anesthesia nurses at Westover are cross‑trained to work all three areas and float to each area within out department. This unique approach requires a positive attitude and flexibility as nurses may float to more than one Peri‑Anesthesia area during their shift to cover the needs of the department. This model of nursing care works extremely well for productivity and gives the Peri‑Anesthesia nurses a holistic approach to the Perioperative experience while providing cohesion as one team.

Peri‑Anesthesia Nursing is a unique type of nursing specialty as we provide the "before" and "after" care for patients that have had surgery or other types of procedures requiring anesthesia. We bridge the gap between floor nurses and OR/Procedure Nurses. The care that we give patients in the Perioperative setting is crucial to positive patient outcomes. Our policies are based on the standards developed by ASPAN (American Society of Peri‑Anesthesia Nurses) which is our professional organization that helps define and establish the scope of Peri‑Anesthesia nursing.
