Description:
Candidates may not have been full-time, part-time, or PRN with any facility associated with the healthcare system within the past year. The facility has 243 bays and trauma bays. A fast track is available. There is a separate triage area, and travelers may occasionally be required to do triage. The emergency room does not have a separate holding area; ER holds are intermixed within the ER.
ER staff care for their holds. There are no separate psychiatric/seclusion rooms available. In-house security is present. The daily patient volume ranges from 80 to 90. The nurse-to-patient ratio is 1 to 4. Required certifications include ACLS, BLS, TNCC, and either PALS or ENPC. Common diagnoses and types of patients include trauma, stroke, sepsis, CHF, and cardiac conditions. The facility employs a combination of charge nurses and house supervisors.
Nurse aids and paramedics/patient sitters assist in patient care. Respiratory therapy completes tasks such as ABGs, breathing treatments, and EGSs. There is no monitoring technician on the unit; RNs must know ECG rhythms. X-ray or CT is available next to the emergency department. Phlebotomy is performed by designated staff or RNs. Shifts are self-scheduled and can vary in timing. Weekend requirements are every other weekend.
Holiday requirements are every other holiday. There are no call or standby requirements. Floating may be required to units qualified for. Scrub color/dress code is navy. Unit-specific orientation is provided. The cancellation policy allows for four shifts per 13-week assignment or three shifts for assignments less than 13 weeks. The charting system used is Paragon. BSN is not required. Trauma Level is applicable.
The care setting is acute. Division is nursing. Shift hours are nights, with every other weekend requirements. Required certifications include ACLS, BLS, ENPC or PALS, and TNCC.
