Job Description

Intertek, a leading provider of quality and safety solutions, is actively seeking a Fiberglass Reinforced Plastics Inspector to join our Technical Inspection Services team in San Antonio, TX. This role offers a fantastic opportunity to build a versatile career in inspection services.

Intertek Technical Inspection Services is a partner to clients across diverse industries such as oil & gas, renewable energy, engineering, chemical, and transportation. Our services include inspection, expediting, technical auditing, and site construction support.

What we’re looking for

The inspector will perform visual inspections of materials and fabricated equipment at vendor shops or on‑site fabrication/testing facilities. The ideal candidate is well versed in quality control inspections, nondestructive testing, mechanical testing, dimensional inspection, pressure testing, and coating inspections. The position requires 50% travel.

Shift/Schedule

All inspectors are utilized on an ad‑hoc basis and are not assigned daily duties. Schedules are based on client needs, inspector availability, location, taxonomy approvals, and specific client requests.

Location

San Antonio, TX and Corpus Christi, TX.

What you’ll do
  • Experience with glass line vessels and fiberglass reinforced plastics (FRP) and dual laminate materials
  • Perform inspections or audits and review testing for conformance to client specifications, industry standards, and approved procedures and report results
  • Review material test reports for conformance with applicable codes and standards
  • Follow up on dispositions and corrective actions related to non‑conformances
  • Document inspection activities in electronic formats
  • Evaluate and agree upon project quality procedures, standards, and specifications ensuring all parties (engineering, procurement, manufacturing) adhere to them
  • Review Inspection & Testing Plans to ensure a standardized minimum level of surveillance per contractual requirements; identify critical inspections and tests to be witnessed by the owner
  • Carry out inspection visits per ITP’s, either personally or via third‑party resources
Minimum Requirements & Qualifications
  • Experience with glass line vessels and fiberglass reinforced plastics (FRP) and dual laminate materials
  • High school diploma or GED, trade school, on‑the‑job training, or university diploma
  • 5+ years of third‑party vendor inspection, expediting, or auditing experience
  • Experience in quality control inspections and tests, including nondestructive testing techniques, mechanical testing, dimensional inspection, pressure testing, and coating inspections
  • Technical training in quality, NDT, blueprint reading, industry standards, auditing, expediting, materials, welding, coatings, electrical components, instrumentation, pressure testing, well control, equipment operation, and assembly
  • Experience with mechanical/pressure vessels and lifting equipment
  • Basic knowledge of material properties
  • Clear understanding of basic procurement and fabrication processes with knowledge of relevant codes and specifications for the oil and gas industry
  • Ability to travel frequently throughout the continental US
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable driving record required
  • Proficient in MS Office programs and Outlook
Preferred Requirements & Qualifications
  • Valid industry certification preferred – e.g., AWS CWI, API 510/570/SI, source inspector, electrical journeyman license, NACE CIP 1–3, EMA expediting management association, ASNT NDT Level II/III, ASQ, or IRCA certified auditor
