HJF is seeking a Research Associate II to perform research and/or development in collaboration with other scientific and technical staff. The role involves designing, executing, and interpreting experiments that contribute to project strategies.

This position supports the Naval Medical Research Unit San Antonio (NAMRU-SA) at Fort Sam Houston, focusing on combat casualty care, craniofacial, and directed energy research to improve survival, operational readiness, and safety of DoD personnel. The work includes intramural R&D support for four directorates: DEHE, CCC&OM, CH&RM, and RSD, involving planning, coordinating, designing, and executing experimental protocols.

HJF is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing military medicine, serving military, medical, academic, and government clients since 1983, facilitating research and clinical efforts.

This position is contingent on contract award.

• Support laboratory-based research in trauma, hemorrhage, resuscitation, immunomodulation, directed energy health effects, and craniofacial health.
• Assist with administrative tasks such as preparing PWS, IACUC and IRB protocols, proposals, reports, and manuscripts.
• Coordinate research studies, ensuring regulatory compliance and maintaining records.
• Order and maintain research supplies, and conduct market research for equipment.
• Ensure compliance with IACUC/IRB requirements.
• Plan and modify research experiments and schedules.
• Conduct data collection through laboratory experiments and literature research.
• Maintain a clean lab environment and report on research progress.
• Manage administrative paperwork related to scientific outputs.
• Maintain data securely and oversee entry-level personnel.
• Write and edit publications and presentations.
• Supervise and instruct contract personnel on technical procedures.
• Schedule and coordinate research activities.

• Master’s Degree + 2 years or Bachelor’s Degree + 5 years of research experience.
• Knowledge of complex laboratory procedures.
• Ability to meet project deadlines.
• Strong communication and analytical skills.
• US Citizenship and ability to obtain/maintain Secret Clearance.
• Current BLS certification or equivalent.

• Lifting up to 10 lbs.
• Prolonged standing or sitting at a computer.

• Primarily in a laboratory setting.
