Police Officers in this position will carry out University and departmental rules, regulations, and procedures while ensuring the laws of Texas are upheld in an efficient, effective, and professional manner as representatives of the department. Officers must lead by example, understanding that first impressions are key to the success of the department. Individuals must have a solid working knowledge of all directives, including University policies.
Please note, starting salaries are based on factors including internal equity, relevant experience, and education.
Responsibilities- Conduct investigations on all criminal and non-criminal cases that occur on campus.
- Patrol the campus in a University vehicle, bicycle, or on foot.
- Provide service, information and directions to students, employees and visitors.
- Insure University property and facilities are secure.
- Preserve the peace by all lawful means while ensuring the dignity and rights of individuals are preserved at all times.
- Enforce traffic laws, making violator contacts, placing subjects in custody or issuing warnings or citations, enforcing Federal, State and Local laws.
- Prepare reports on all activities, filing them with the immediate supervisor.
- Cooperate & collaborate with other employees in the spirit of teamwork and collegiality.
- Comply with all of Trinity University policies & guidelines.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
- Work is reviewed by supervising officers through activities, reports and periodic observation of performance.
- May supervise subordinate personnel and train new patrols.
- Required:
High School graduate or its equivalent. - Preferred: A Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice or related field.
- Required:
Currently certified as a Texas Peace Officer. - Preferred:
Currently certified as a Texas Peace Officer; and, two years of experience in the security or criminal justice field.
- Equipment (required):
Firearms, intermediate weapons to include pepper spray, ASP baton, Taser, handheld radio, dispatch equipment, university automobiles, multi-line telephone equipment, and some general office machines. - Accuracy (required):
Excellent interpersonal skills, the ability to act quickly and rationally in emergency situations, the ability to interpret and implement numerous policies, procedures, and laws.

- Must pass a physical examination to include drug screening and psychological profile. A thorough background investigation will be conducted, and applicant must have no felony convictions.
- Must possess a valid Texas Driver’s License and have a good driving history; applicant may not have more than two moving violations in a three-year period.
- Requires working rotating shifts, holidays and overtime. Some aspects of this position may be hazardous.
Maintaining and satisfying minimum attendance requirements is an essential function of this position, including working all full-time regular hours as established for this position and any scheduled or emergency overtime. All employees in this job classification are required to satisfy this requirement.
