Aerospace Ground Equipment Mechanic

Join the Air Force Civilian Service as an Aerospace Ground Equipment Mechanic (WG‑5378‑10) at the 12th Maintenance Group, Joint Base San Antonio – Randolph, Universal City, Texas. In this full‑time position you will troubleshoot, diagnose, test, repair, modify, overhaul, and service powered and non‑powered Aerospace Ground Equipment (AGE) and specialize in the assembly, disassembly, and inspection of aircraft tires and rims.

Base Pay: $31.42 – $36.64 per hour. Actual pay will be based on skills and experience.

• U.S. citizenship required.
• Must pass random drug testing.
• Must obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to drive up to a 2‑½ ton truck and tow ground equipment.
• Qualify for a restricted area badge and may support aircraft as a flight line driver.
• Physical ability to climb, bend, stoop, crawl, stand for prolonged periods; lift up to 20 pounds regularly and occasionally 50 pounds with assistance or mechanical devices.

• Perform preventative maintenance on ground power and non‑powered support systems.
• Check equipment for fuel, lubricants, coolant, battery water levels, pumps, batteries, fan belts, spark plugs, engine performance, generator bearings, and oil/temperature indicators.
• Assist journeymen with major maintenance on ground support equipment.
• Perform periodic routine and special inspections of all scheduled equipment.
• Use safety practices and procedures following established rules and maintain a safe and clean work environment.
• Maintain knowledge of powered and non‑powered aerospace ground support equipment, electricity principles, solid‑state circuitry, and related safety regulations.
• Understand the theory and operation of internal combustion diesel, gasoline engines, and gas turbine engines.
• Read and interpret wiring diagrams, schematic drawings, technical orders, and technical publications.
• Use hand and power tools, instruments, test equipment, electrical meters, hydraulic knockout tools, hammer drills, valve spring compressors, and micrometers.
