Seton Home works to break the cycle of abuse and poverty by providing a caring home, education, and support services necessary to transform the lives of pregnant and parenting teen mothers and their children.
SummaryResponsible for the overall wellbeing, care, and supervision of adolescent mothers ages 12‑18, young adults 18‑21, and their children ages 0‑5. The Teen Parent Specialist works in a residential setting, applies trauma‑informed practices, and teaches life‑skills and parenting curriculum through a home‑like environment.
Position Responsibilities- Plan, lead and implement parenting, educational, independent living skills, and recreational activities during your shift.
- Build a positive relationship with each program participant and foster connections with mothers and their children.
- Effectively manage the group of children assigned to you. Maintain and enforce agency policies and procedures to protect youth rights and ensure appropriate discipline.
- Actively engage participants to foster positive, age‑appropriate development.
- Meet documentation deadlines and complete records accurately in accordance with state licensing, contractors, and funders.
- Conduct yourself professionally as a representative of Seton Home with participants, staff, children, and school staff.
- Maintain positive culturally competent relationships with residents and staff.
- Document client progress and interactions via the online database.
- Follow reporting and notification protocol for serious incidents.
- Adhere to safety training and protocols daily, and take precautionary measures.
- Administer medication as needed to residents and their children.
- Contribute to the development of resident treatment and service plans.
- Apply DFPS Client Youth Rights, Minimum Standards, and contractor/funder requirements.
- Provide transportation when needed for court, activities, hospital emergencies, and appointments.
- Care for children 0‑5 when mothers refuse to parent.
- Maintain professional boundaries with clients.
- Apply de‑escalation and emergency behavior intervention techniques.
- Acquire knowledge of agency policies.
- Possess maturity, confidence, and emotional stability.
- Respect the cultural and socioeconomic characteristics of the service population.
- Protect confidentiality of all client and organizational information.
- Adhere to the Code of Conduct and faith‑based standards.
- Taken a solution‑oriented approach in all interactions; promote teamwork.
- Complete New Employee Orientation and required training; failure to do so will result in termination.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Participate in shift transition to obtain resident information, concerns, and updates.
- Conduct medical cart exchange and verify medication logs.
- Administer prescriptions and OTC medications as needed.
- Ensure residents and children are awakened with sufficient time for their day.
- Transport clients to appointments as needed.
- Supervise, interact, and engage clients absent from school or work.
- Teach life‑skills through daily interactions.
- Assist residents with room cleanliness, hygiene, laundry, and healthy eating.
- Meet basic needs of participants and their children.
- Complete room and safety checks to maintain a safe environment.
- Document client progress and services in the online database.
- Notify shift supervisor of serious incidents.
- Lead and participate in assigned client activities; document participation.
- Process new medication and discard expired or discontinued medication.
- Distribute hygiene products, clothing, toiletries, and document actions.
- Complete transition report with the oncoming shift.
- Adaptability – Adjust to changing conditions while maintaining excellence.
- Communication – Share complex information sensitively across diverse audiences.
- Critical Thinking – Process and generate information with analysis, evaluation, inference, and reasoning.
