Research Computer Scientist
The Defense and Intelligence Solutions invites applicants to join our team as a Research Computer Scientist. In this role you will develop complex and innovative software solutions for a variety of customers and platforms, benefiting from a flexible work schedule, excellent benefits, and collaborative teamwork.
Objectives of this Role- Highly motivated, curious, and detail‑oriented critical thinker, adding to a dynamic team of Software Architects, Computer Scientists and Engineers.
- Lead a team through all aspects of the Software Life Cycle using Agile Methodologies, including requirements interpretation, design, trade studies, development, task estimation, testing, and deployment.
- Support design and development of new technical solutions and frameworks for thin client, server‑side, object‑oriented and embedded programming, and database patterns.
- Assist senior staff with work breakdowns, estimating tasks, and mentoring junior team members.
- Provide proactive technical contribution, clear communication, and comprehensive documentation.
- Contribute to the design and development of an advanced software architecture leveraging object‑oriented and embedded programming, distributed computing, thin clients, and data distribution systems.
- Lead all project life‑cycle phases: requirements, design, development, testing, integration, deployment, and documentation.
- Collaborate with teammates and customers to understand requirements and constraints.
- Establish task breakdowns and estimates for both individual and team efforts.
- Work primarily at SwRI facilities with occasional travel to government client locations in the U.S. and overseas.
- Communicate task status, mentor junior staff, and collaborate with project leadership.
- Exercise strong self‑direction while functioning effectively in a team environment.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Computational Engineering, or related field.
- Minimum 4 years of experience in software development using languages such as JavaScript, Java, C#, C++, HTML5, and Python.
- Proficiency in analyzing and translating complex technical requirements into design, implementation, unit and integration testing, and documentation.
- Experience with Microsoft tools, software repositories, Agile practices, distributed computing, and core computer science principles.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, detail‑oriented, proactive, fast learner, and teamwork oriented.
- Valid/clear driver’s license.
