Summary:

GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF WORK:

Responsible for building native iOS, Android, and web applications in addition to related backend development. The position will collaborate with a team of developers responsible for application development to enhance VIA’s business processes and customer experience. Development of all projects will require attention to UI/UX and customer focused usability and design as well as cybersecurity considerations. This position has an emphasis on writing “clean” and flawless code to produce fully functional software applications according to requirements.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Develops applications including those with a strong focus on UI and UX designs, Artificial Intelligence, and other features.

Maintains quality, responsiveness, and security of web-based, mobile, and enterprise applications.

Collaborates with other developers on the team and supports new features.

Maintains the integrity and organization of code and technical deliverables.

Implements security and data protection within application design and development.

Documents user requirements and applies appropriate development methodologies and practices based on the needs and complexity of each effort.

Works collaboratively with customers throughout product development lifecycle.

Maintains and supports delivered ERP/EAM systems across VIA.

Designs and prototypes potential solutions to meet the given functional and technical requirements.

Enhances and debugs the existing applications following best practices and development standards and guidelines.

Supports production systems, analyzes and resolves production problems in a timely manner, and resolves end user service requests as assigned.

Creates deliverables according to the Software Development Lifecycle such as functional and technical specifications, use cases, test cases, and system documentation.

REQUIRED

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor’s Degree and at least 6 months of acceptable experience or an equivalent combination. Candidates should have proven experience as an application developer.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience with COTS transit applications a plus.

UI and UX design experience is preferred.

Analytical thinking, problem-solving capability, great attention to detail, and time-management skills a plus.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Knowledge of programming for diverse operating systems and platforms using development tools.

Experience with front-end/server programming languages and libraries is essential.

Experience working with graphic design and converting designs to visual elements.

Experience building web services and databases.

Knowledge of API’s, cloud platforms, and SQL database interactions.

Thorough understanding of multiple software development lifecycle (SDLC) methodologies and the ability to apply appropriate practices based on project needs.

Strong knowledge integrating applications with external APIs/web services.

Knowledge of iOS and Android ecosystems to aid in the construction of interactive and dynamic cross-platform applications.

Ability to program in several programming languages, such as C#, Java (J2EE), and SQL.

Skill in analysis, problem solving, and troubleshooting.

Demonstrates initiative, sound independent judgement, attention to detail, and the ability to coordinate projects.

Ability to communicate well with all team members and clients.

Ability to provide quality customer service and to convey technical information to non-technical users.

Ability to learn and apply new technology to create more engaging, easier to use, and valuable applications.
