Job Summary

The Assistant Men’s Tennis Coach assists the Head Men’s Tennis Coach in the daily management of the Men’s Tennis Program. This role is responsible for assisting in the recruitment of prospective student athletes, assisting with on‑court coaching, serving as a community relations liaison for the Men’s Tennis Program to the public and assisting with monitoring the academic progress of student athletes.

Core

Responsibilities
  • Assists in recruiting quality student athletes.
  • Assists in conducting practice sessions and be present during strength and conditioning sessions.
  • Assists in establishing training rules for student-athletes and keeping them informed of acceptable standards of conduct.
  • Assists with developing game schedules and equipment purchases that will allow the men’s tennis teams to stay within their approved budgets.
  • Assists in monitoring satisfactory academic progress of student‑athletes.
  • Be knowledgeable of and adherence to NCAA and Conference rules and regulations.
  • Monitors the compliance to NCAA and Conference rules and policies by student athletes.
  • Responsible for the execution of effective systems of internal control which provides reasonable assurance that operations are effective and efficient, assets are safeguarded.
  • Travels as needed to support tournament participation and recruiting activities at the request of the coaching staff.
  • Represents UTSA at American Conference and national meetings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university.
  • Three (3) years of experience as a men’s tennis student athlete or coach.
  • Connections with Club’s and Pro’s in Town.
  • Knowledge of local clubs and local professional tennis players.
  • This position requires the ability to maintain the security and integrity of UT San Antonio and its infrastructure.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Five (5) years of experience as a men’s tennis coach in a university setting.
  • Experience playing tennis on the professional circuit.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Specific knowledge in the sport of men’s tennis and knowledge and compliance with all NCAA, State of Texas, UTSA and American Conference rules and regulations.
  • Demonstrated excellent organizational, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment, discretion and flexibility.
  • Knowledge of stringing machines, rackets, ordering proper shoes and clothing.
  • Member of United States Professional Tennis Association (USPTA). (Preferred)
  • Member of United States Tennis Association (USTA). (Preferred)
Working Conditions
  • Physical activity in the sport of Men’s Tennis.
  • Weekend and evening hours and travel required.
Physical Demands
  • Medium:
    Up to 50lbs – Ability to exert up to 50 pounds of force to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.

This position will work primarily on campus
. Travel and parking expenses are the employee’s responsibility.
