The Shuttle Bus Driver is responsible for safe operation of gas and diesel shuttle buses to transport UIW students and employees on assigned campus routes. Drivers provide excellent customer service, follow all state, city, and university policy and safety regulations. Reports to Manager, Vehicle Services.

• Pre/post inspection of assigned shuttle bus; identify defects, complete inspection booklet.
• Ensure proper operation of brakes, horn, windshield wipers, lights, first-aid kits, emergency flashers, door-opening devices; remove large waste items.
• Check for forgotten personal items; return found items to supervisor.
• Start shift; obtain route assignment.
• Drive assigned route, picking up and dropping off passengers within campus, following prescribed routes.
• Assist disabled individuals when entering/exiting vehicle.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
• Immediately report emergency or imminent safety conditions; respond to passenger issues.
• Report all accidents to supervisor; request police or ambulance service as needed.

• Ability to pass required DOT physical.
• Excellent driving record verified through state DMV.
• Strong customer service skills.
• Knowledge of all state and local traffic laws.
• Knowledge of DOT regulations and UIW’s safety policies.
• Ability to drive for long periods of time.
• Capable of maneuvering shuttles and buses safely; assist passengers entering/exiting vehicle.
• Work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures.

High School Diploma or GED equivalent.

One (1) year of shuttle and/or bus driving experience.

Exceptional customer service skills.

• Valid Class A or B Commercial Driver License with P & S Endorsements.
• Must be at least 21 years of age with insurable driving record.
• Ability to pass DOT physical.

Monday through Friday 11:15am-8:15pm with occasional extended hours. Must have physical strength adequate to maneuver shuttle bus and assist passengers with a disability. Note that four (4) driving breaks are typical during shift, exclusive of lunch break.
