The Transportation Manager collaborates with the Assistant Director of Transportation to manage personnel, vehicles, and other administrative matters, ensuring efficient staffing, scheduling, and vehicle maintenance for campus transportation services.

Salary Range: $54,000 – $57,000 annualized, commensurate with education, experience, and qualifications.

Job Summary

The Transportation Manager is responsible for managing the day‑to‑day operations of UT San Antonio Transportation services, overseeing staffing, scheduling, vehicle maintenance, and coordination with campus partners.

Core Responsibilities
  • Manage recruitment, hiring, evaluation, and disciplinary processes for transportation employees, and provide training opportunities for new and existing personnel.
  • Oversee the vehicle maintenance program, including monitoring work orders, coordinating with approved vendors for repairs and maintenance, verifying compliance with regulatory inspections, and managing inventory of parts and supplies.
  • Serve as the Transportation liaison with campus partners in scheduling, coordination, and billing of transportation services for special events.
  • Prepare, analyze, and present transportation operation reports (passenger counts, vehicle mileage and usage, fuel consumption, route evaluations).
  • Monitor employee execution of safe transportation practices and customer service in accordance with departmental, university, state, and federal guidelines.
  • Collaborate with the Associate Director of Parking and Transportation to develop, maintain, and manage transportation standard operating procedures.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with university personnel, subordinates, and the public.
  • Manage operational financial responsibilities in conjunction with the Associate Director of Parking and Transportation.
  • Perform duties of subordinates as necessary to meet operational needs of the university.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • Two years (60 hours) of college or two years of related management experience in operations and transportation.
  • Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class B with Air and Passenger endorsements.
  • Current DOT Physical Certification.
  • Six years of experience in a lead, dispatch, or supervisory role in a large shuttle, transit, or transportation operation.
  • Ability to maintain the security and integrity of UT San Antonio and its infrastructure.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Understanding of clerical procedures and record‑keeping systems.
  • Demonstrated independent decision‑making and problem‑solving ability.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
Working Conditions
  • Office environment.
  • After‑hours and weekend work may be required on an occasional basis.
  • Occasional overtime may be required.
Physical Demands
  • Exposure to seasonal weather while supervising operations in the field.
  • Sedentary work; primarily sitting. Walking and standing may be required occasionally.
  • Exerts up to 10 lb. of force occasionally.

This position will work primarily on campus. Travel and parking expenses are the employee’s responsibility.

This position is contingent upon a successful background check. Verification of a valid driver’s license and Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) will be performed as applicable. Applicants selected must be able to show proof of eligibility to work in the United States by time of hire.
