Primary

Purpose:

Safely transporting students to and from school, to and from related school activities, in accordance with district policies and procedures.

Prerequisites
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • At least 21 years of age required
  • Maintain a minimum of a Class “C” drivers’ license by the State of Texas
Special Knowledge/Skills
  • Ability to pass the U.S. Department of Transportation (Use the "Apply for this Job" box below). tests and physical exam
  • Meet all state TEA qualifications for school bus drivers
  • Ability to understand written and verbal instructions
  • Ability to manage student behavior
Major Responsibilities and Duties
  • Competency to complete required bus driver safety training
  • Must be able to communicate effectively in speaking, reading, and writing
  • Available for regular and possible overtime work, and is absent only with good cause
  • Exhibits good judgement in decision making and problem-solving
  • Operates a Multi-Purpose Vehicle bus safely and efficiently
  • Accessible to dispatcher or supervisor for daily assignments
  • Attends all required staff developments
  • Demonstrates leadership with proper attendance and punctuality
  • Uses time wisely to ensure productivity and efficiency
  • Ability to work well with children with disabilities
  • Ability to operate safety equipment and adaptive equipment
  • Observe all traffic laws and safety regulations for school buses
  • Operate and monitor two-way radio equipment to communicate with transportation office and other drivers
  • Complete and maintain accurate, up to date, and timely records and reports including but not limited to those related to bus mileage, gas and oil consumption, and number of passengers transported
  • Maintains a clean vehicle, externally and internally, and replenishes fuel as needed
  • Perform other duties as assigned
