Position Summary
San Bernardino County's Project & Facilities Management Department is actively seeking a Supervising Building Construction Inspector who will be responsible for the County's team of construction inspectors. The Supervising Building Construction Inspector will manage inspection of County facilities and construction projects, including a wide range of construction activities, materials, and features, requiring architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and equipment inspections. This position will serve as the expert in reviewing complex plans and construction involving difficult or unusual problems.
The incumbent will make frequent visits to job sites, providing guidance and recommendations to Project Managers and the inspection team.
- Reviews and adjusts workloads; participates in the inspection of construction projects; advises staff on code interpretations, new codes, and ordinance changes.
- Assists in settling conflicts with builders concerning code interpretations, requirements, and substandard structures.
- Participates in the review of initial project designs before plans are finalized and put out for bid.
- Approves issuance of stop work orders in situations of deliberate or negligent non-compliance.
- Represents the department in legal actions as required.
- Carries out full-scope supervisory duties, including hiring, performance evaluation, and disciplinary action.

About the DepartmentThe Project & Facilities Management Department (PFMD) is a multi‑disciplined department of professionals providing San Bernardino County with comprehensive building and facilities services. The department builds and maintains the majority of the County's vast infrastructure, which includes over 250 facilities. Several key departments served include Arrowhead Regional Medical Center, Fire District, Sheriff, Probation, Regional Parks, County Administrative Offices, Library, Museum, and many more!
The Project Management team is committed to the timely and cost‑effective design and construction of projects included in the County's annual Capital Improvement Program. Additionally, the team is dedicated to providing quality improvements to ensure acceptable and safe environments for County departments and the public they serve. Projects range from horizontal to vertical construction, including unique projects such as our Park & Recreation facilities and the County's Arrowhead Regional Medical Center.
The Project Management team are forward thinkers, seeking innovative solutions to improve processes, deliver quality services, and develop meaningful relationships with customers. Additionally, the team are hands‑on, independent, and self‑motivating, preparing bid packages and advertisements for procurement, negotiating and administering contracts for design and construction, and providing inspection and construction project management services from concept through occupancy.
In addition, the Facilities Management team comprises over 100 dedicated staff who oversee the operations, maintenance, landscaping, and custodial services for most County‑owned facilities.
