Job DescriptionMentor students with learning and/or physical handicaps on a one-to-one or small-group basis to remediate academic deficiencies and meet the goals and objectives of their Individual Educational Plans (IEPs). This position requires bilingual skills in English and a designated language.
Essential Job Functions- Administers diagnostic and achievement tests to pupils.
- Participates in conferences to establish Individual Educational Plans for identified students.
- Tutors students on a one-to-one or small group basis to address deficiencies in subject areas identified by scores.
- Compiles instructional materials to meet the goals and objectives outlined in IEPs.
- Promotes the well-being of students by fostering a positive attitude/self‑image and encouraging cooperative interaction.
- Communicates with teachers and resource specialists regarding student progress and needs.
- Develops tutoring schedules consistent with daily school schedules and special activities.
- Maintains logs and daily records of student attendance, attitude, health performance, and progress.
- Explains the purpose and goals of the tutorial program to students and teachers.
- Attends and participates in periodic in‑service training sessions.
- Prepares, administers, and corrects tests and records results.
- Assists with student safety emergency situations as necessary.
- Assists with student toileting.
- Performs related duties as assigned.
- High school graduation or equivalent.
- Completion of at least 48 semester units at the college level or possession of an associate’s or higher‑level degree.
- Passed assessment demonstrating knowledge to assist in teaching reading, writing, and mathematics readiness, or completion of at least 48 semester units or possession of an associate’s or higher‑level degree.
- Paid or unpaid experience assisting with the academic instruction of handicapped children is desirable; additional specialized training in education or a related field is desirable.
- Valid California driver’s license.
- Written Examination – 100%
- Bilingual Certification – Pass/Fail (required for bilingual positions).
- Assessment Examination – Pass/Fail (criteria: at least 48 semester units / 72 quarter units, associate’s degree, or passed assessment).
- Only qualified candidates will be invited to participate.
- Successful candidates will be placed on the eligibility list.
- Eligibility list active for one year.
