Federal Work Study - Peer Mentor, AAPI
San Bernardino Community College District – San Bernardino Valley College and Crafton Hills College
The Peer Mentor will play an essential role in supporting the AAPI Tatayan Cohort and Pasefika Student Union Club by fostering a welcoming and inclusive environment that promotes student success. The peer mentor will provide mentorship, plan and facilitate activities, and conduct regular check‑ins to enhance student engagement.
Responsibilities- Peer Mentorship: Provide one‑on‑one and group mentorship to members of the AAPI Tatayan Cohort; share personal experiences and offer guidance on academic, social, and personal challenges.
- Weekly Check‑Ins: Conduct regular meetings to monitor progress, offer encouragement, and share resources.
- Activity Planning and Facilitation: Collaborate with team members to plan and lead engaging cohort activities and events; promote cultural awareness and community building through event participation.
- Presentations and Workshops: Develop and present workshops or informational sessions related to student success, cultural identity, and leadership development.
- Administrative Support: Track student attendance, participation, and engagement in cohort activities; assist with program assessments and maintain accurate records.
- Community Engagement: Represent the AAPI Tatayan Cohort and Pasefika Student Union Club at campus and community events; foster a sense of belonging by connecting students with campus resources.
- Other Duties as Assigned: Support the program coordinator and team with additional responsibilities as needed.
- Students must be in possession of a Federal Work Study award letter for the current academic year.
- Students must be enrolled in a minimum of 6 units.
- Students must have a minimum GPA of 2.0.
- Students must take a current TB test.
- Students must successfully pass a live scan screening before employment.
- Students must exhibit excellent customer service skills and willingness to assist students and staff.
- Students must be able to follow directions and carry out the duties as assigned.
- Students must have familiarity with AAPI and Pasefika cultural values and experiences.
- Students must have previous experience in mentorship, leadership, or event coordination roles.

Physical Requirements
The work is performed primarily in a standard office setting.
Physical: The primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in an office setting; the ability to stand or sit for prolonged periods, occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist; occasionally lift, carry, push, or pull light to moderate weight up to 25 pounds; operating office equipment with repetitive hand movement; and verbal communication to exchange information.
Vision: Vision sufficient to read computer screens and printed documents; ability to operate assigned equipment.
Hearing: Ability to hear in the normal audio range with or without correction.
