Job Summary
Under the direct supervision of the Executive Director of Student Completion Engagement, and under the lead work direction of the Orientation & Engagement Coordinator, the Orientation Leader team at California State University, San Bernardino Palm Desert Campus (PDC) plays a vital role in welcoming and guiding new students through their transition to campus life.

Key ResponsibilitiesPeer Educator & Role Model:
As an Orientation Leader, you will serve as a peer educator and role model, setting a positive example for incoming students.
Welcome and Engage New Students
- Serve as the primary point of contact for incoming freshmen and transfer students, ensuring a warm and professional welcome to campus.
- Assist students in acclimating to the university environment and foster a positive first impression of CSUSB PDC.
- Conduct guided campus tours, providing essential information about campus facilities, academic resources, and student services.
- Address questions from students and their families, ensuring clarity and promoting a positive campus experience.
- Support the execution of orientation programs, including group activities, icebreakers, and informational sessions.
- Encourage student participation and engagement in various orientation activities, helping them connect with their peers and the campus community.
- Serve as a mentor, offering insights into student life and academic success at CSUSB PDC.
- Demonstrate professionalism, integrity, and a positive attitude at all times, setting a strong example for new students.
- Educate new students on the available campus resources, including academic support, student services, extracurricular activities, and wellness programs.
- Assist students in navigating the campus and understanding the full range of services available to support their success.
- Perform duties outdoors in high heat conditions, including leading campus tours and assisting with outdoor events.
- Adhere to heat safety protocols, including staying hydrated, wearing appropriate sun protection, and taking scheduled breaks as necessary.
- Work closely with other Orientation Leaders and staff members to ensure the smooth execution of orientation events.
- Attend and actively participate in all mandatory training sessions and team meetings.
- Support the setup and breakdown of orientation events, including arranging materials, signage, and equipment.
- Ensure all logistics are handled efficiently and promptly to ensure a seamless experience for new students.
- Offer guidance and support to students as they transition to university life, helping them navigate academic, social, and extracurricular opportunities.
- Address student inquiries and provide appropriate direction or referrals to campus services when necessary.
- Regularly report to the Orientation Committee and other supervisors on the status of orientation activities and any student concerns.
- Communicate effectively to ensure coordination and timely resolution of any issues that arise.
- Ability to learn and perform assigned work; follow oral instructions; work cooperatively with faculty, staff, and other students; communicate effectively with all levels; and read and write English at a level appropriate to the position.
- Special
Qualification:
Admission or registration as a CSU student.
- Maintain a 2.0 G.P.A. or greater per semester and cumulative.
- Students must be enrolled in at least halftime units at CSUSB (6 units undergraduate; 3 units graduate).
- International students must have full-time enrollment at CSUSB. (12 units undergraduate; 6 units graduate).
- Eligible to work in the United States.
- Payroll Requirement:
Social Security Card.
- A cumulative GPA of 2.8 or higher at the time of application and maintain a 2.8 GPA throughout the duration of the position.
