The Job

Telecommunications/​Electronic Engineer II – County‑wide data infrastructure and communications systems for San Bernardino County Fire and Special Districts. Applicants must be current County employees in a regular, contract, extra‑help, recurrent, Public Service Employee, WEX, or intern position (eligible up to 6 months after assignment).

Plan, design, implement, evaluate, and modify telecommunications and data infrastructure and communications systems. Conduct research, cost analysis, and implementation of proposed networks; evaluate existing or new systems; design and reconfigure telecommunication and network systems; prepare schematic plans, technical drawings, and wiring diagrams; determine power system requirements; design outside‑plant, backbone, and horizontal cabling, including fiber‑optic infrastructure for LANs, audio, video, VoIP, and security systems;

prepare detailed engineering packages and scope of work. May supervise or assist in installation as required.

Required Education – 30 semester units (45 quarter) in telecommunications, data infrastructure, or closely related field (substitute experience: 1 year for each 30 semester units).

Required Experience – 3 years (within last 5 years) of planning, designing, implementing, evaluating, and/or modifying telecommunications or electronic systems (data networks, transport systems, VoIP, CCTV, audio, security, building‑premise distribution).

Desired Qualifications

• Data and fiber‑optic infrastructure and communication technologies; certification or training in Cisco VoIP, AutoCAD, BICSI.
• Satellite installation and supporting equipment; specialized environments (law‑enforcement, detention, hospitals).
• CCTV, security systems, data systems, structured cabling.
• Current industry experience evaluating technical challenges and implementing new technology solutions.
