The EHS Coordinator supports Mattel's Global Supply Chain organization by implementing environmental, health, and safety programs that protect employees, ensure regulatory compliance, and promote a strong culture of safety within the distribution center. This role partners closely with operations leadership, frontline employees, and the Global EHS team to execute site‑specific EHS plans, drive injury prevention initiatives, and maintain accurate reporting of safety metrics.
The EHS Coordinator will spend approximately 75% of their time on the warehouse floor, performing safety walks, hazard assessments, incident response, and coaching activities, and 25% completing administrative and reporting tasks. This role is essential in fostering employee engagement, supporting continuous improvement, and upholding Mattel's commitment to a safe, healthy, and sustainable workplace.
- Implement and support site‑specific EHS programs, procedures, and corrective actions in alignment with Mattel's Global EHS Strategy.
- Conduct daily safety walks to identify hazards, evaluate risks, recommend mitigation strategies, and follow through on corrective actions.
- Record workplace injuries, incidents, and near‑misses; prepare required reports; and assist in conducting investigations and root cause analysis.
- Coordinate and facilitate basic EHS training for employees, including new‑hire onboarding, emergency procedures, ergonomics, and safety compliance topics.
- Maintain, analyze, and upload local environmental, safety, and sustainability performance metrics into Mattel's EHS online reporting systems.
- Lead local employee engagement initiatives (e.g., Safety Week, North America EHS gatherings, site campaigns) to strengthen a proactive safety culture.
- Support risk mitigation programs including ergonomics assessments, equipment inspections, warehouse safety checks, and compliance audits.
- Drive continuous improvement by identifying trends, proposing solutions, and collaborating with site leadership to enhance safety processes.
- Serve as a visible floor‑level safety resource, coaching employees and promoting safe behaviors throughout all warehouse operations.
- Facilitate safety meetings and training in group settings, including large audiences.
- Ability to build rapport and work effectively with employees at all levels across a diverse workforce.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to recommend realistic corrective actions.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills; comfortable facilitating large group training.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and other EHS‑related software tools.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Bilingual required (specify English/Spanish).
- General knowledge of environmental, health, and safety practices.
- Understanding of key EHS concepts such as hazard identification, ergonomics, incident investigations, and regulatory compliance.
- Technical EHS knowledge preferred (OSHA standards, Cal/OSHA, safety systems, etc.).
- Minimum 3 years of experience in an EHS‑related role.
- Knowledge of warehouse machinery, processes, and ergonomics.
