Under the lead work direction of the Pharmacist II and the supervision of the Executive Director, the Pharmacist I performs the full range of general licensed pharmacist duties.

Under the supervision of the Pharmacist II and the Executive Director, the Pharmacist I performs comprehensive licensed pharmacist duties.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Interpret prescriptions, dispense medications, vaccines, and therapeutic agents.
  • Consult with prescribers, nursing staff, and patients on medication use.
  • Ensure pharmacy operations comply with all relevant regulations and standards.
  • Administer vaccines and emergency medications; furnish contraception, emergency contraception, PrEP/PEP, and medical abortion per California protocols.
  • Maintain inventory and handle pharmaceutical waste; ensure proper acquisition, storage, and documentation of drugs and supplies.
  • Oversee pharmacy security, confidentiality, and compliance during audits and inspections.
  • Assist with pharmacy administration, including billing, insurance processing, and transaction reconciliation.
  • Manage cash transactions and maintain drawer balances; handle refunds.
  • Support quality assurance, inventory audits, satisfaction surveys, and policy development.
  • Serve as Interim Pharmacist-In-Charge as needed; stay current on pharmaceutical laws and practices.
  • Train and update staff on regulations and standards; ensure full compliance with professional codes.
  • Participate in SHC initiatives, professional development, and cross-campus duties as required.
  • Minimum Qualifications:

    Required

    Education and Experience
    • Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy from an ACPE-accredited program or equivalent recognized by the California State Board of Pharmacy. At least one year of experience as a licensed pharmacist working independently.
    Required Qualifications
    • Knowledge of laws and regulations related to dispensing, storage, and recordkeeping of drugs, narcotics, and poisons.
    • Thorough knowledge of drugs, chemicals, and supplies used in the Student Health Center pharmacy.
    • Working knowledge of automated pharmacy systems and campus procurement and budget processes.
    • Understanding of pharmacy administration and Pharmacist-in-Charge responsibilities.
    • Ability to compound and fill prescriptions, evaluate prescriptions for proper dosages, review patient profiles for interactions and allergies, and serve as a resource for pharmacology and drug therapies.
    • Experience in developing and implementing pharmacy policies and maintaining accurate records.
    • Ability to establish effective working relationships with staff and patients, communicate effectively, and provide leadership to pharmacy support staff.
    Preferred Qualifications
    • Certification to administer vaccines related to anaphylaxis medications.
    • American Pharmacy Association's Pharmacy-Based Immunization Delivery Certificate.
    • California Pharmacist Contraception Services Training Program Certificate.
    • Medication Therapy Management Services Certificate.
    • HIV PrEP/PEP Certificate.
    • Current BLS CPR Certification.
    • Experience in college health services or with adolescent/young adult populations.
    • Strong collaboration, communication, problem-solving, and diversity service skills.
    Compensation and Benefits

    Anticipated Hiring Range: $65.96 - $67.94 per hour
    Classification Salary Range: $27.39 - $100.10 per hour
    The salary offered will consider internal equity and experience.
