Responsibilities
  • Implement the Department’s Mental Health Programs in the institution by providing oversight to onsite clinical operations.
  • Directly supervise and train Senior Psychologists, Staff Psychologists, and Recreation Therapists.
  • Review or perform the most difficult psychological evaluations for court‑referred Pre‑Sentencing Diagnostic Cases or inmates referred by the Board of Prison Terms.
  • Assist the Chief Psychiatrist or Chief of Mental Health in program development and evaluation, clinical research and training, and in writing and revising Department policy and procedures.
  • Serve as a highly skilled psychological consultant to other medical staff.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Doctorate degree in Psychology (PhD or PsyD) from an accredited institution meeting the criteria of Section 2914 of the Medical Board of California Business and Professions Code.
  • Valid license as a Psychologist issued by the California Board of Psychology.
  • At least two years’ experience as a licensed Psychologist in the Department of Corrections.
  • Complete the State Examination/Employment Application STD Form 678 (or electronic equivalent). Include all experience and education demonstrating how the minimum qualifications are met.
  • Foreign‑educated candidates must provide verification of U.S. course/degree equivalency (e.g., NACES).
  • Candidates must be willing to submit to background investigation (Live Scan Fingerprinting) and tuberculosis testing prior to appointment.
  • Eligibility for recruitment and retention stipend (up to $10,000 one‑time) and differential (up to $20,000 monthly) may apply; referral bonus up to $5,000 for CDCR/CCHCS employees who remain employed 90 days.
