Linux Desktop & Devices Support Engineer

Join Canonical as a Linux Desktop & Devices Support Engineer and deliver outstanding technical support on the full Desktop and Server stack. You will own support cases, engage customers via phone, tickets, and remote sessions, and maintain our knowledge base.

Location

Global remote. Employment is open worldwide unless a specific location is required.

Role Responsibilities
  • Investigate and troubleshoot customer issues, research solutions, and document results.
  • Resolve complex problems related to Canonical’s portfolio of products.
  • Own support cases to meet our Service Level Agreement (SLA) and ensure high customer satisfaction.
  • Collaborate with colleagues and senior engineers when escalation is needed.
  • Participate in a regular weekend working rotation.
  • Contribute new knowledge base articles and maintain existing content.
  • Understand Ubuntu development processes to set accurate customer expectations on fix timelines.
Qualifications
  • Professional written and spoken English with excellent presentation skills.
  • Undergraduate degree in a technical subject or a compelling narrative of an alternative path.
  • Experience with Linux troubleshooting: collecting logs, stack traces, and fine‑tuning configuration files.
  • Experience integrating Linux with authentication/directory services and network file systems.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills, including navigating stack traces and logs, advising next steps, and escalating to the correct team when necessary.
  • Programming fundamentals in any language.
  • Rapid learning, adaptability, and the ability to handle the pressure of a customer‑facing role.
  • Travel internationally twice a year for company events up to two weeks long.
