Automotive Equipment Operator I

Salary: $4,111.00 – $4,910.00 per month (new to state candidates hired at minimum salary)
Key Responsibilities- Load, unload, and deliver patient and hospital related items (e.g., food, laundry, personal care items, patient property, postal packages, warehouse supplies, state property, equipment).
- Operate a 24‑passenger bus to transport patients throughout secured areas of the hospital.
- Operate a refuse packer (trash truck) to collect refuse and recycle items for delivery to the landfill or recycling center.
- Conduct office moves, set‑ups/tear‑downs for hospital special events and other hospital needs.
- Perform daily pre‑trip inspections, maintain applicable logs, and perform maintenance tasks (servicing, fueling, washing, vacuuming) for passenger vehicles, light trucks, box trucks, refrigerated food trucks, refuse packer and transport bus.
- Work any shift—including weekends and holidays—within the Motor Pool Department’s seven‑day schedule; overtime may be required.
- Experience operating a box truck, passenger vehicle, and similar motorized vehicles.
- Demonstrated ability to load and unload vehicles safely and perform minor vehicle repairs.
- Good mechanical ability and the capacity to follow directions.
- Understanding of posted speed limits in patient‑occupied grounds, hospital security regulations, and Motor Vehicle Codes.
- Valid Class B California Commercial Driver License with Air Brake Endorsement (for trash and food trucks).
- Passenger Endorsement to drive the 15‑passenger hospital bus.
- Random drug/alcohol screening and background investigation required as a condition of employment.
The Motor Pool Department operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Applicants must be available for all shifts, including weekends and holidays; overtime may be requested.
