As Aetherflux’s first inhouse recruiter, I’m helping to build the team that will put the first Space Solar Power (SSP) satellite into orbit.
About Aetherflux
Aetherflux is solving the global energy crisis by building the infrastructure for abundant, resilient, and continuous space-based solar energy. We are tackling humanity’s most complex engineering challenge with a world‑class team dedicated to delivering a revolutionary power platform. Aetherflux is transforming how civilization powers, computes, and connects—from orbit to Earth.
The Senior Test Technician (Mechanical) is responsible for the hands‑on testing, troubleshooting, and maintenance of satellite components, assemblies, and complete systems during the design, manufacturing, and integration phases. They work closely with engineers to ensure the satellite hardware meets performance, quality, and safety standards prior to launch and operation. Key duties also involve troubleshooting complex mechanical and electrical issues and providing feedback for process improvements.
Key Responsibilities- Test Execution: Perform component, subsystem, and system‑level testing, including electrical performance, mechanical fit‑checks, and RF testing using specialized equipment (e.g., spectrum analyzers, oscilloscopes, multimeters).
- Environmental Testing: Operate environmental test chambers for vibration, thermal, and vacuum testing to simulate launch and space conditions.
- Troubleshooting and Repair: Diagnose and resolve technical issues or failures in test equipment and satellite components, often collaborating with engineers.
- Assembly and Modification: Construct and modify wiring harnesses, mechanical support equipment, and test fixtures from schematics, drawings, and technical documents.
- Documentation and Reporting: Accurately document all test procedures, results, repairs, and service calls, and prepare reports for engineers and project managers.
- Maintenance and Calibration: Perform preventative maintenance and ensure the calibration of test equipment and tools, such as torque wrenches and precision instruments.
- Safety and Standards Adherence: Strictly follow safety protocols and industry standards when working with electrical components, at heights, and using power tools.
- A high school diploma or GED is typically required, with an Associate’s degree or vocational training in automotive, electronics, telecommunications, or a related engineering field highly preferred.
- 5+ years of experience as a Test Technician.
- Hands‑on experience with electrical and mechanical systems integration, testing, and troubleshooting, and working with equipment such as oscilloscopes.
- Ability to read and interpret technical documentation, schematics, and engineering drawings.
- Experience with programming/scripting languages (e.g., Python, LabVIEW) for test automation is a plus.
- Strong problem‑solving and analytical abilities.
- Excellent attention to detail and manual dexterity.
- Effective communication skills for collaborating with cross‑functional teams and potentially customers.
- Ability to work independently and in a fast‑paced team environment.
- A strong commitment to safety protocols.
