Kona Kai San Diego is a boutique urban resort located on beautiful Shelter Island. With 170 guestrooms, Kona Kai San Diego is home to Vessel Restaurant + Bar, Spa Terre, a marina and a private club, all located just minutes from downtown San Diego.
We are currently seeking a positive and self‑motivated individual to join our fantastic team as our Staff Accountant to support the financial operations of the island‑inspired resort.
THE JOBThis role will report to the Director of Finance and Assistant Controller. The Staff Accountant plays a vital role in supporting the financial operations of the hotel. This position requires strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills, along with a solid understanding of accounting principles. The Staff Accountant is responsible for accurate billing, account reconciliation, and maintaining financial records in compliance with contractual agreements and audit standards.
Key Responsibilities Membership & Billing Operations- Assist with enrollment and account setup in the membership system.
- Ensure compliance with policies and correct account setup.
- Audit daily F&B and Spa charges to ensure accurate posting to membership accounts.
- Post initiation and monthly membership dues to customer accounts.
- Review and distribute accurate customer statements.
- Respond to membership account inquiries professionally and promptly.
- Collect outstanding receivables and maintain a detailed collection log.
- Process and post payments and charges to customer accounts.
- Respond to credit card chargebacks and maintain a chargeback log.
- Prepare month‑end membership reports.
- Support membership events and initiatives as needed.
- Review and process billing for FIT and wholesale accounts in accordance with contracts.
- Reconcile and post incoming payments from various sources (e.g., credit cards, direct billing, third‑party portals).
- Maintain accurate billing records for audits and reporting.
- Review and accurately bill group accounts.
- Resolve guest billing inquiries and maintain current aging reports.
- Assist with month‑end closing processes, including journal entries and account reconciliations.
- Perform administrative and accounting duties to support overall hotel financial operations.
- 1–3 years of accounting experience
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- 1–3 years of experience in a previous hotel is strongly preferred
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Strong data entry skills with attention to accuracy and efficiency.
- Ability to perform accurate mathematical calculations.
- Experience with financial systems and membership platforms is a plus.
- Strong problem‑solving and decision‑making abilities.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively across departments.
- Highly organized with the ability to multitask in a fast‑paced environment.
- Flexibility to meet scheduling demands, including occasional weekends.
- Pay rate of $22.00 per hour (overtime $33.00 per hour)
